HTC One Overview

The all new HTC One is a smartphone with over 300 new features and innovations encased in a beautifully crafted metal body.

The HTC One brings a new experience to Android users with a dramatically improved HTC Sense user interface, great design and cutting edge hardware.

There are 4 key improvements to the HTC One over previous HTC models.

HTC BlinkFeed - Streams live updates from a variety of feeds, be it social or news direct to your Home screen. Now you don’t have to hunt for what’s happening in your world, it is all just there. The latest updates from friends, photos, calendar events, music, news and more. With over 1,000 global content partners BlinkFeed can enhance your connectivity and access to information.

HTC BoomSound - Dual front speaker that uses Beats Audio tuning, speaker & headphone amplifiers for a richer, louder and more immersive sound.

HTC Zoe - Made up of 4 components, Zoe Photos, Highlights, Editor and Share

When you press the shutter the HTC One automatically takes 20 photos and 3 seconds of video. These are combined to produce an image that literaly comes to life. Simply scroll back and forth with Time Scrubbing to select the exact moment you want to remember. Once captured Zoe Highlights automatically creates instant cinematic movies of your events. Create perfect results with Zoe Editor with retouching tools, object removal and more. Finally share a collage of events through Zoe Share.

No longer does your photo gallery have to just show static images, now they are dynamic.

Sense TV - Lets you control what you watch on the big screen with a built in cable TV electronic programme guide and remote. A built-in infrared transmitter on the HTC One works as an interactive visual channel guide and universal remote with the most popular television set-top boxes and audio video systems. Browse and set reminders for shows from the most popular cable TV providers.

Interact with all this great content through a stunning 4.7 inch HD capacitive display, which has a 1920 x 1080 resolution for an incredible 468 PPI (points per inch). The screen is in fact 43% sharper than an iPhone 5 that has 326PPI. For added peace of mind Corning Gorilla Glass 2 makes for a tougher and scratch resistant screen.

With the design of the HTC One there were no compromises, Constructed from as single piece of aluminium it is designed to not only be ergonomic but stylish too. It is incredibly thin at less than 10mm too. A zero gap and aluminium construction means that it is also rugged and resistant to general wear and tear.

Capture your special moments with the awesome HTC UltraPixel Camera which features all the latest imaging tools. Unlike other smartphone camera's the HTC One has a super sensitive image sensor which provides up to 300% more light during capture. The performance in low light conditions is improved dramatically and provides more clarity, contrast and detail in your photos. No longer measured in megapixels, you can easily print a 10x8 inch photo out in stunning detail. Of course you can too record video content in full 1080p HD through the UltraPixel camera or the 2.1 megapixel (88 degree wide angle lens) front facing camera.

Running Google Android, you get all the smartphone features you would expect so document editing, creating and replying to emails, browsing the internet, YouTube and navigating from point A to B are all part and parcel of the HTC One. With the latest Android apps and services pre-installed on the phone you can easily customise and personalise your phone.

On board connectivity options include 3G, 4G (subject to network provider), WiFi, Bluetooth, DLNA, microUSB, MHL, USB-on-the-go & NFC so there are few reasons not to remain connected and lead a digital lifestyle.

With a 1.7GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM the HTC One will handle most things that you can ask of it. With a 2300mAh battery you should too get a full day's usage from it.

The HTC One is great for entertainment on the move with its stunning 4.7 inch high definition screen. With that resolution of 1920 x 1080 and 468 PPI, photos and movies are sharp and crisp with superb contrast. However, you don’t just want to view a movie you want to hear the sound and become part of it. HTC BoomSound provides dual frontal stereo speakers that deliver big sound with less distortion and greater detail. This is due to powerful integrated amplifiers, which also mean the HTC One is the phone of choice when you want to share music with friends.

All this digital content can be shared on the phones internal memory (32 or 64GB depending upon availability) or in the cloud thanks to 25GB of FREE Dropbox storage (for 2 years) with the HTC One.

With all of these features it is easy to forget about the phone. It goes without saying that many of the phone features seen on HTC's past devices will be available to give you the best in call options but the HTC One has to Sense Voice; dual microphones which detect loud ambient noise and then dynamically boost the call voice to compensate and ensure clarity.

" Had it for a day now, and it is a truly lovely device. Extremely quick, solid build, and easy to use.

The screen is lovely, so crisp and sharp and amazes anyone who looks at it.

I had my doubts about Blinkfeed, to me it just seemed like bloatware that I would want to disable, but having used it - it just works, I've even found it quite a joy to use, it has a really polished feel to it.

Overall it is a fantastic device.

Bad Points-
Battery life - yeah, like any other smartphone - if you use it lots then it will drain the battery - big deal, just charge it up!

Until manufacturers can come up with newer battery technology all phones will suffer from this. "

"

Received my HTC One a couple of days (thanks to Clove) and I must say I'm super impressed with the build quality, buttery smooth performance and BoomSound!! Battery performance (a common HTC gripe) is history - full day's performance with heavy usage. Memory, more than i require so no complaints even with absence of Micro SD slot.

Now i only want the HTC One version of WP8/8.1/9.

Highly recommended.

I received my phone back in mid-April and had also ordered several accessories with it. Unfortunately the Otterbox Commuter case could not ship at the same time as it was not in stock.

I contacted Clove who assured me they would ship it separately when it arrived.

Well........today it arrived in Qatar so I wish to thank Clove for your brilliant service.

Still very much in love with my phone and the new update (1.29) has improved the camera even more! Fantastic!

"Have this phone for almost a month. I was going to wait for the galaxy s4, but I'm so glad I didn't. The HTC ONE is without any doubt the best phone ever built. Everything about this phone is a joy to behold. It exudes quality! How can apple charge so much for iphone 5, when you can have this piece of brilliance, with twice the memory for less? This is my first HTC and it won't be the last."

"I have had my phone for over a week now so thought I would give a quick review.

Battery life is impressive. I use 'Juice Defender Ultimate' to have close control on my phone and I now get over a day and a half out of the battery. Regular use, WiFi, YouTube, Emails, BBC news etc. Maybe 3 hours of music a day.

I have installed PowerAmp Pro and now that I have the settings I want......the speakers are even more amazing.

Pictures in low light and indoor situations........best on the market bar none!

Really thrilled with this phone! "

It is all what has been said in these reviews and bar betters battery life and expandable memory I'd call the HTC One the best and most complete phone on the market today. Anyone want my Nokia Lumia 920 and iPhone 5 64gb ?!!"

"I would like to congratulate Clove on excellent customer service before I write this review - Well done.

I have worked in the technology sector for the last 18 years and a techno addict since the age of 12. I have pretty much used every phone in the market.

HTC have come back HARD ! This device is the perfect combination of design, technology and software out on the market I don't think any other phone provides such a rich and rewarding experience. In my opinion there is no point in producing a phone which has technical statistics which are mind blowing but the end user experience is rubbish. HTC sense 5 does an amazing job of sitting on-top of Android and HTC have found a perfect balance.

The hardware design is fantastic as soon as you take the phone out of the box you instantly realize this is a product which made with quality in mind. The screen is gorgeous and vivid the materials used on the glass are perfect.

The battery lift is above average I hit mine hard and I mean hard on usage. The camera works very well and the front facing speakers need to be heard they are amazing.

The only thing I would improve is the addition of expandable memory.

So far the ultimate smartphone in the market. I don't work for HTC :)"

"Before I say anything about this phone people, let me tell you the kind of handsets I have owned in the past few years.
HTC Desire,Galaxy S2,Galaxy S3,Razor i,iPhone 5,HTC One X ,HTC 8X,HTC One X,Sony Xperia Z ( currently own as well),Xperia U,HTC Desire C to name a few. The reason I mentioned the long list of phones is simple. Take my advice into serious consideration before you buy this handset.I am a seasoned & advanced Android user. I have lived with Android ever since the day it was born ( The G1 ). My experience is not limited to Android only. I own an iPad ( with retina display ) n also own an iPhone 5 currently ( IOS ). I have also lived with Windows 8 mobiles for a while lol.

Now I am going to be very short and to the point before you get bored and leave my review half way through lol. I am going to rate the phone in Five major areas ( the most important to an average consumer ).

Design ( 5 stars ):

It's the most beautiful and elegant premium phone mankind has ever made. If you are thinking of the Galaxy S4 don't even think about it. It's a bigger Galaxy S3 made with the same cheap plastic. If you have never owned a Galaxy Phone before then yes by all means go for the Galaxy S4. But remember there is a big difference in ergonomics of a 4.7" screen ( HTC One ) and a 5" screen ( Xperia Z which I also currently own ).

Camera ( 4.5 stars ):

Too many technical details are needed here in order to understand the Ultrapixel technology used in HTC One. But in short HTC One is using 4 MP camera with an Ultrapixel sensor. A sensor which HTC claims brings 3 times the more light then a regular sensor in a normal mobile camera. In order to test this I used it against iPhone 5 ( which I also currently own ) and Xperia Z ( which i also own n has a 13 MP camera ) under all lighting conditions. Results were amazing. It had the best low light performance i have ever seen in any phone camera. Normal day light shots were excellent as well but got pixelated once zoomed in due to low 4 MP. But u won't even notice that if u r uploading pics on Facebook or sending them via whtsapp or viber. It wasn't a problem for me cuz phone cameras r meant for that purpose anyway n my pics were v decent wen uploaded on facebook.

Performance : ( 5 Stars )

Simply mind boggling performance. With the worlds fastest chip ( currently available ) Snapdragon 600 at 1.7 Ghz with 2 Gig of Ram it just refuses to slow down. I am a v heavy user and the phone just doesn't slow down n is fast and responsive n silky smooth. Lot of ppl after reading my review will be thinking about the Galaxy S4. It's no faster then the HTC ONE. S4 will also be using the Snapdragon 600 chip with a little more clock speed of 1.9 Ghz. Difference is so minimal ( 200 MHz ) that it won't b noticeable to us at all.

Battery : ( 5 Stars )

Big 2300 mAh battery is used in HTC One. It is the biggest battery HTC has ever used in any of there phones. Results r amazing. I am able to get full day of use out of the phone easily now that i have had the phone for a week. People battery is not an issue with this handset which past HTC sets had an issue with. As long as u r like me ( average usage ) checking Facebook ,whtsapp, viber and emails n surfing the web or reading articles n listening to music battery should last you a day easy. Like with any smart phone these days if u r going to play games and watch movies then obviously the battery will drain out quicker.

Sound : ( 5 stars )

This is my personal favourite. It's the worlds first phone to have two speakers at the front of the phone. It's also the worlds loudest phone ( lab tests carried out ). If you don't believe the lab tests then listen to me. People I have never ever ever heard sound like this from any phone ever in my life. It's crispy and clear with a lots of bass. Watched a few movies on it and was shockingly surprised how good the sound was on this bad boy ( thanks to Beats Audio ). No wonder HTC calls it Boomsound.

I obviously cudnt cover everything but I tried. I highly recommend this phone as its simply the best phone out there and the one to beat in 2013. If u r not bothered about the ergonomics and cheap construction and can also live with a average sound on a phone ( after experiencing sound on the S3 for 6 months ) then by all means go for the Galaxy S4 ( I personally wouldn't ). To me a phone has to look good & feel practical ( specially one hand use ). I will leave the rest for you to decide. Choice is yours. Ether u make UR own mind up or take advice of someone who has nearly owned all the top phones world has ever produced. Good luck!!!!"

HTC clarifies the situation with the One microphone

We posted earlier this month about the microphone in the HTC One and how its quality is comparable to the Nokia Lumia 920. It has since transpired that the reason for this is that Nokia and HTC have sourced the component from the same supplier,   STMicroelectronics. The HTC One and Lumia 920 therefore use [...]

SGS4 only has 9.5GB user-accessible internal storage

It’s commonplace for Android handsets to have a reasonable chunk of their internal storage taken up by system files and pre-loaded apps. Typically we tend to see around 11-12GB of storage available to the user on a 16GB handset. However, recent handsets such as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 seem to be taking [...]
