| If I have to.... |
 |

Several members of Clove Technology have recently set up a new charity 'If I have to' to help raise money for children and young people with disabilities. Clove's founders, Chris and Jill's son Greg was involved in a tragic road accident with catastrophic head injuries which has left Greg with serious brain damage. So we at Clove have a very personal mission to raise as much money as possible.
The details are as follows:
Greg attends Victoria Education College (a division of Livability, registered charity 1116530), a local school which specialises in the care of children with all sorts of disabilities.
As you can imagine, there are numerous pieces of equipment used and needed, not just for Greg, but for all the students all having differing needs. One recently introduced item is the Eye Gaze. Some students including Greg have very little means of communication which, we are sure you will agree, is vital in life. If the normal methods of talking or showing your feelings are not possible, every effort has to be made in to looking at alternative means.
One such method is using eye focus to be able to make choices, express desires or just have a moan! The Eye Gaze is a piece of machinary that enables the user to do such things by focusing or staring at options on screen which are then recognised. The decision could then be dictated by a voice or by simply going to another screen. For example, simple yes or no's, choosing which television programme to watch or letting someone know you're feeling hungry. The potential to the user could be enormous and life-changing.
But, pieces of equipment like these, for which there is not a great demand are extremely expensive, in this case 13-15,000 pounds. However, we believe Greg and other students are ideal candidates for this.
Therefore, we are working to raise money for Victoria Education College by supporting them and carrying out a sponsored cycle ride.
On 5th July 2009 Clove Technology, along with friends, family and supporters of Victoria took part in a cycle ride in and around Brockenhurst, in the New Forest, Hampshire, England.
There were two routes, a 20 mile and 30 mile!
Although we have completed the event, this is an ongoing cause and we are very passionate about this cause and hope that you are too.
