Motorola Moto G Overview
With a lot of industry focus on the fastest, most powerful and cutting edge handsets, those at the lower end are often overlooked. The qualities which the average user really needs, affordability and reliability, are often at odds with one another, making cheaper handsets those to be avoided.
Motorola have decided to change this belief with the Moto G, a paradigm shifting device bringing quad-core processing and buttery smooth performance to handsets at under £200. Running Android 4.4 KitKat - the Moto G benefits from all of Android's latest features.
The Motorola Moto G provides everything the average person needs from their smartphone, held together and powered by a quality processor. The 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 chip from Qualcomm is part of this year's range of processors, unlike other entry level devices using last year's hardware.
Screen quality can make or break a new device, being the first thing that really jumps out at you. Motorola have seen fit to include a high definiton 720p panel on the Moto G. At 4.5 inches this provides a perfect resolution for browsing, playing games or watching videos on the go.
Motorola have barely touched the stock Android interface, although are a few tweaks and additions. Motorola Assist runs in the background to create a profile of your user habits. This will help the Moto G to anticipate your most used actions and save on processing power for your basic operations as the handset learns your habits.
Motorola Migrate has been included as a standard feature - this allows you to copy all of your old contacts, images, videos and even call/messaging history from your old Android phone.
The main camera app has been enhanced with Motorola's expertise, rather than embracing the Google app seen on Nexus devices. This allows for a number of extra scenes and features as well as options to tweak and post-edit images.
The 5 megapixel main camera is quite basic when compared to other devices, although is still capable of taking more than acceptable images, and just as good as any other at this price level. For quick snaps on the go, selfies or a night out, the Moto G camera is always ready to capture the moment.
The Moto X hit the headlines in the USA for its customising options. Whilst the Moto G won't receive quite the same level of personalisation, you can swap the back cover for a number of others in a variety of colours and prints to suit your style.
If you're buying on a budget, looking for your first smartphone, or need something as a back up or replacement device, the Moto G is quite simply the perfect choice. Containing everything you would expect from a modern connected handset, the Moto G delivers a consistently smooth experience and leaves plenty of change in the bank account!
