In the Lumia 720, Nokia has created not only a beautiful looking phone, but also one that offers a strong feature set at a reasonable price. Throw in the fact that it’s got a great battery life and you have a device that will catch the eye of many Windows Phone 8 aspirers.

Typically a phone such as the Lumia 720 would be considered mid-range, especially if the price is anything to go by. However, if you were to regard the handset in terms of specifications alone, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s towards the higher end of the Windows Phone market.

Sticking to the design of the 820 and the 920, the Lumia 720 is available in a range of vibrant colours. It also has the Qi wireless charging technology of its siblings, although a snap on case is required as opposed to the technology being built it. This does of course mean that the 720 is compatible with the range of wireless charging accessories that have already been released by Nokia when housed in the case.

As usual, no expense has been spared with Nokia’s design and this results in the 4.3” WVGA display being housed in a sleek unibody design. The screen includes the same sensor technology implemented in the Lumia 920, which makes for an extremely responsive display that can even be used whilst wearing gloves. You’ll be pleased to know that the display is made of Gorilla Glass 2, adding extra protection from bumps and scratches.

In terms of power, the 720 runs on a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and has 512MB RAM. There’s 8GB internal storage, which can be easily topped up thanks to the included microSD slot (expandable up to 64GB). Nokia also includes 7GB of free cloud storage through Microsoft SkyDrive, so you’ll have plenty of options for storing files.

The camera is another part of the Lumia 720 that will impress in terms of both hardware and software. The front facing camera has a 6.7MP sensor, with a Carl Zeiss Tassar lens and a resolution of 2848 x 2144m. The front facing camera has a 1.3MP sensor and a wide-angle lens, which means you can fit more in the frame when taking a group photo whilst posing in the picture. Nokia has developed some great features for its Lumia range and these are included with the 720. Cinemagraph lets enables you to animate stills, while smart shoot helps you to create the best photo from a range of shots.

When it comes to connectivity, the Lumia 720 features Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n and NFC. Data and power transfer happens via the microUSB 2.0 slot and there’s a 3.5mm jack for attaching headphones.

Powering the aforementioned features is a whopping 2,000 mAh battery. That brings the capacity of the 720 in line with that of the flagship Lumia 920 and provides easily enough power to get you through the day off one charge. Stand by time is up to 520 hours on 3G, while 3G talk time is an impressive 13.4 hours. Despite it’s large battery, the Lumia 720 still manages to boast a frame that’s just 9mm thick.
