Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini Overview
The Samsung Galaxy S III mini is the latest handset to be added to the highly popular range of Samsung Android handsets. Offering Jelly Bean at an entry-level price, this handset gives Android fans (or newcomers) the chance to get their hands on the latest version of Google's OS without too much of a splash.
Borrowing from the form factor of its larger sibling, the S3 mini features the iconic desing that has also been applied to the newly released Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
Both the S3 and Note 2 are large screened devices, measuring 4.8" and 5.5" respectively. To give those that prefer a slightly smaller display a slice of the Galaxy action, Samsung has therefore released the S3 mini, which has a more modestly sized 4" Super AMOLED screen with a WVGA resolution.
The processing power of the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini would have had it top of the pile less than two years ago. It runs on a dual-core processor with the CPU clocked at 1GHZ, with 1GB RAM.
The Note 2 was the first OEM handset to launch with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and the S3 mini continues this trend, running Android 4.1 out of the box. It'll also have Samsung's TouchWiz skin on top, which includes specially developed features from Samsung such as Smart Stay, which stops your display from sleeping whilst you are looking at the handset.
The front facing camera on the S3 Mini has a 5MP sensor and LED flash. There's also a front facing VGA camera for video calls.
Unlike other manufacturers, Samsung has continued to include microSD slots with its handsets. This includes the S3 Mini, which also has 8GB onboard storage for music, videos and photos. There is of course 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth included, plus DLNA for further options.
Size wise the S3 Mini comes in at just under a centimetre thick, measuring 121.6 x 63 x 9.9mm. The battery has a 1500mAh capacity.
