The Sony Xperia E is the absolute no nonsense smartphone from Sony providing all the functionality a modern smartphone should without the high end specifications that many decide they don't want or need. If you buy the Xperia E you'll have a handset with a design that sits neatly against the rest of Sony's higher performing Xperia range. The Xperia E starts with voice calls, the purest phone functionality, now enhanced with HD voice where supported by networks and active noise cancellation in the handset.
A low price doesn't mean an out of date device and the Xperia E offers Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box, wrapped up in Sony's slick Timescape UI so you get the best of Android's most recent offerings. A modern smartphone also needs a camera and the Xperia E delivers with a 3.2 megapixel autofocus model for capturing those important or off the cuff moments and taking videos.
Conversations about dual and quad core processors might interest those looking at the most super performing of today's smartphones but the Xperia E is content to be powered by the more than capable 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon, top of the range not so long ago and still able to provide a seamless experience for those of us that aren't 'power' users. The 3.5 inch 320 x 480 screen is also sharp enough at this size to display and play back photos and medium quality video.
The internal storage of 4GB gets you started but if you feel the need to upgrade to store more apps or media then the micro SD card slot supports 32GB cards for that extra boost. Media is also where Sony help deliver a true smartphone experience with the Xperia E by providing access to their Music Unlimited service, FM radio, acclaimed Walkman application and xLOUD Experience audio filtering technology to deliver high quality sound either through the speakers or your headphones.
Other smartphone functionality such as full calendar and organising suite, email support, Google Internet services, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, DLNA and GPS as well as more round off a powerful little package. Full access to Google Play also means the choice of tens of thousands of compatible applications awaits.
The Sony Xperia E is a great choice for anyone wanting to take their first into the world of smartphones, a less expensive gadget for the kids or perhaps as a fully featured backup device. It showcases the best of a modern device's capabilities using what was relatively recently top of the range technology to save on price, compared to the expensive powerhouse brutes at the industry's bleeding edge like its big brother the Xperia T.
