Sony Xperia go Overview
For a limited time Sony are offering a free 60 day trial of their music streaming service - Music Unlimited with any Xperia smartphone. For more information on accessing the offer click here.
Our smartphones are becoming more and more important to us, so we take them to and use them in more and more places and scenarios we wouldn’t have perhaps done before.
One of the main scenarios is when it involves water.
We all know how crippling water can be to anything electronic. This is where the Xperia go stands out. It is water resistant.
Much like the Motorola DEFY and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Active, the go allows us to use the phone in more situations with less fear of long lasting damage to the phone.
IP67 rated, the Xperia go can withstand up to 30 minutes submerged in water (port covers must be closed), which is more than enough for most people! So if you are out running, caught in a rain shower or you drop the phone in the sink, you should be safe. Just for your peace of mind, we have tested the Xperia go in water and it works fine when removed!
Sporting a 3.5 inch touchscreen display with Sony’s Mobile Bravia Engine technology, anything from browsing web pages to viewing photos is natural and realistic. Sensors can adjust the brightness of the screen based on the lighting conditions and you can turn it from portrait to landscape too for a large number of tasks.
A built in battery with 1305mAh capacity will be enough to keep most users powered through the day, even if you are using the on board, Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G connectivity and times.
An efficient 1GHz dual-core processor will handle the task or running multiple applications and because this has Google’s Android Operating System there is an endless amount of applications you can download from Google’s Play Store, be it free or paid for apps.
You might just download an app to edit photos or video captured on the 5 megapixel camera, store them on the internal memory (8GB or which 4 is user accessible) or on a microSD card, and then share them through social networks such as Twitter & Facebook either through dedicated apps or Sony’s intelligent Timescape system that they have integrated.
Included in this device is access to Sonys’ Music & Video Unlimited. Allowing you to stream music, videos or TV episodes right to the Xperia go. If you have a DLNA enabled TV, you can even send this content to a larger display and share with family and friends.
The Xperia go features a standard sim card slot and does too have a lanyard attachment, perfect for the more sports driven users.

"Well the Xperia Go is certainly a disappointment and deffo doesn't warrant a £200 price point. It feels very cheap in the hand and it's finished in some matt effect plastic which picks up mark like a magnet and instantly looks like a worn handset. The rear cover is very flimsy, i'm sure it wouldn't take much force to break it and in the hand tends to creak quite a bit. Of equal poor quality are the small covers aimed keeping the ports waterproof which aren't a very tight fit especially the USB cover. I'm not sure how long the power button will last either - this feels very weak giving little resistance during pressing. |
