Sony Xperia Z Tablet Overview
The Xperia Z Tablet is set to bring everything Sony does best in the smartphone world to a tablet; the perfect partner to the Xperia Z smartphone,or as a standalone device. Always a company to produce good looking hardware that also performs, Sony have focussed more than ever on design with Xperia Z duo and the quality shines through with the Z tablet. Although it weighs in at just under 500 grams, this 10.1 inch tablet is solidly built and, like its smartphone cousin, is also IP57 certified for water resistance and dust proofing.
The HD 10.1 inch screen is powered by Sony's excellent Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 for equality with Sony's unparallelled HDTVs. The Reality Display on the Xperia Z tablet is the result of Sony's BRAVIA TV engineers experience. You are also brought closer to the colours and action on screen than ever before with a tablet thanks to OptiContrast technology which has removed a layer of air between the surfaces in the screen production, integrating the sensor on the lens and making sure the display is right at your fingertips. OptiContrast results in clearer viewing in sunlight and a seamless black surface when the screen is off.
Sony know how important it is to have the newest technology available on their premium devices and the Xperia Z tablet is no different. Alongside dual channel 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi (with Miracast and Wi-Fi hotspot), NFC for one touch sharing and payments, and MHL enabled microUSB for HD output, you also have an embedded IR transmitter to turn the Xperia Z into a remote control for other devices in the home, support for the latest Bluetooth 4.0 specification. LTE is also included for connectivity to the next generation of high speed mobile networks*.
No high end device is complete without a powerhouse processor running the show so Sony have ensured the Xperia Z Tablet is kept running by the Qualcomm S4 Quad Core processor clocking in at 1.5GHz per core and supported by 2GB of RAM for seamless multi tasking. The S4 also has integrated Adreno 320 graphics so you can enjoy the latest 3D games and enjoy smooth web browsing and multimedia playback.
Sony have responded to consumer concerns about battery life in modern devices; not only is there a 6000 mAh Li-Po battery built into the Xperia Z tablet, the user controllable STAMINA mode available on the Xperia Z Smartphone makes an apperance here as well. With STAMINA mode activated, unnecessary applications are closed and the Xperia Z Tablet placed into a kind of hibernation mode. You can still make sure the notifications for your most used and critical applications are still received though - so if you still want to receive email notifications but nothing from Facebook during STAMINA, then that choice is with you.
Quality cameras can be the deciding factor when choosing smartphones but less so with tablets. Sony are looking to change that with the 8.1 megapixel beauty on the rear of the Xperia Z tablet. Not only is the resolution impressive for a current tablet, the modules used in it are exactly the same as those found in Sony's smartphone line. The Exmor R sensor has been developed for high quality image processing with low noise levels, even in low light conditions. Video chat is a key part of many of our lives and Sony have made sure that the front facing camera on the Xperia Z Tablet is not an afterthought either by keeping it at a more than respectable 2 megapixels.
High quality Android tablets have been few and far between, and despite the best efforts from many manufacturers, nothing has really yet come close to beating the iPad's dominance. The Xperia Z Tablet could really change this, offering all of the mobile power of Android in a premium shell, oozing quality at every turn and finally matching quality hardware to the software at this screen size
