Overview of Acer DX900
The Acer DX900 is amongst one of the world’s first dual-SIM and dual standby Windows Mobile handsets to support HSDPA and EDGE. The DX900 is a simple solution to an increasingly in-demand requirement for consumers who need access to two mobile communications services, but don’t want to carry around two devices at the same time.
The Acer DX900 allows you to have uninterrupted access to two separate phone services, for example; one for business and one personal, or one for calls and another for data, in a single device. Frequent business travelers can use local SIM card and home SIM card in the same device at the same time. International business and cross boarder travelling becomes so much easier with this device from Acer.
The DX900 features support for both high-speed 3.5G (UMTS/HSDPA) and 2G (GSM/EDGE) communications, as well as GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, a high-resolution VGA display, and a 3-megapixel auto-focus camera.
Standard mobile office applications and tools are included, not to mention Acer exclusive applications to enhance the performance and functionality of the device.
With a powerful 500MHz processor, multiple task management is fast and simple. Mobile productivity and efficiency is taken to a new level with the Acer DX900.
If you are carrying multiple phones or changing SIM cards, this should be your choice of device as the DX900 alleviates this problem with a great design, form factor, all from a brand you can trust.

"I am using the DX900 since nearly a year, my provider is O2, when using the standard settings for GPRS/UMTS modems it took something which was not in-line with the recommendation of o2 (wrong spelling of the access point) but worked, since a few days it doesn't work anymore, entering a new modem with the correct access data is possible, but 1st doesn't help and 2nd disappears again from the list after switching off. It disappears only from there because if you want to reenter it with the same name, you are told that this connection already exists, but you can't see, nor use. In the WAP adjustments where you are supposed to select a connection either, none appears in the list and you can't create one. So I can't surf the web which I could before and now don't ask me why I can still download e-mails... BTW tried to upgrade to A147.040.0590 but it keeps telling me there is no USB connection, despite I confirmed on the device that I wish to upgrade and had a sync via USB just before... My enthusiasm for this device is at minimum level now." |

"Hi Guys, I reviewed this phone some time ago. I have about 6 months now and I'm thinking of chucking it away and buying a Samsung Dual SIM. I've reinstalled windows several times at this stage. I found that the camera works well in snow (Wow). Recently I had an emergency and needed my phone. When I went to use it had an error "can not power the modem, please turn off". This was the last straw. I had to reinstall the phone 3 times but this may be a hardware issue. I recommend that you don't part with your money on this one and wait for some drastic improvements. The bells and whistles are great but reliability is a big deal these days. Take my word, you might want this phone more than ever but you will be sorting out issues time after time. Good Luck." |

"This phone has actually been a headache to me, few days after I got it the wifi stoped working, I manually entered the gprs settings for the mobile operator here in Nigeria, but each time I reset the phone the GPRS setting disappear! sometimes contacts stored on SIM b do not display in the contacts list, the phone hangs up every morning... in fact it's been a horible experience. I ended up spending money to cause myself stress..." |

"I've had Samsung D780 before. DX900 have a lot better voice quality but worse battery life. With Samsung you can also switch between two calls - in Acer if second call arives and you answer it, the first one is disconnected. All I could achieve in DX900 is about 1% per hour of StandBy time, so in theory you have 100hs of standby time (technical specs with 400hs is a joke :) Without 2 patches from Acer website I've had problems with SIM2. Currently I'm using oldSAP ROM with WM6.5. It's facter, quicker, less freezing. " |

"It is a Good Phone, but poor PAD. Factory ROM is unstable, which may causing you a lot of headache and heartache. Multitasting is a joke, as the free memory will only be 20-30M. Fortunetely, Cooked ROM is available. The most stable and fast cooked ROM is Bruno Martins's ROM. There are minor bugs, but at least it saves you from phone stop responding and missed calls. Acer should not rely on XDA developer to fix their Bugs." |

"What can I say, good phone with dual sim. I owned a few Dual Sim phones but this is obviously the best there is. Memory is a bit scarce especially when you load and use the applications that ACER provided on install. The finger friendly SPB Shell is a great feature making it easy to navigate the system. You don't get any Sat Nav software so I got CO-Pilot 8 Sat Nav Software which runs well on the system but you need to go to task manager and close any open programs before you use it (Nice one Acer, great phone with low memory!!). The speed at which the GPS locks on to the satellites is great. I had two WM phones before this and you'd be home by the time these lock on even with regular updates. The ACER only requires an update every 10 days but it will work without these. The camera by far is the most disappointing feature on this phone in my opinion. All that flexibility in the camera program for a resulting poor picture. Not as versatile as I would like. Also the system has a mind of it's own. It's got this cool feature where you can block all mobile data connections from the phone to prevent data transfers without your knowledge. This will stop you running up bills if you don't have a data plan on your contract. Problem is that when you connect it changes the data settings for your region. I'm with O2 IRL and it keeps changing the setting to O2 UK for data. Lucky I have memorised the O2 IRL settings although what a pain. The size is good and it feels lighter than it looks. Would I buy this phone knowing what I know??? Probably. Let hope ACER learn from this to improve with future dual sim models should they plan to make more. I give it a 7 out of 10. Docked 3 for Battery, Memory and Camera." |

"I have mine two weeks and still have problems with battery life. It will barely last one day on a full charge, even with ALL CURRENT patches and updates. The type is much too small to read, even at it's largest setting. SMS autocorrect doesn't work, unlike the earlier Eten X500. SMS Text size in the DX900 is similarly appallingly small and difficult to see (and I've 20/20 vision!) Voice Commander DOES work well, which is a surprise, as it didn't work on the X500. As somebody pointed out, the camera has to work through WM6.1, so there is a delay between button push and picture capture. However a bigger problem is that the settings for the camera are on the screen and are (again!) too small to see properly. The concept of the phone is good but I think we're quite a few ROM's away from a phone that is usable and works reliably. Having said that, I'm going to stick with it, with the help of eten-users.eu." |

"Bought one a month ago. Applications are okay though I agree it should be with jvm (anyone know how to get this loaded?) Battery sucks I only managed to get it to last up to 12 hours with moderate usage. Key is to switch off all applications including the bluetooth when not in use. Amyone knows how to get the batteries to last, I am listening. Good for dual sim usage" |

"Bought the mobile just about two weeks ago and kind of disappointed with it. The battery life is not up to standard. To better explain, I would get 20 hrs of battery life with the latest updates from Acer and turning off all the comms, by not making ANY phone calls. The phone keeps freezing and rebooting itself time to time, at least once a day. The mix of windows and Spb Shell makes this device extremely inoperable and it's SLOW. My 3G GPRS settings (Three Australia) is set to 3services and the setting disappears (ANYONE KNOWS WHY?) every time I had to reboot the mobile. Then I set it up again just to keep the data connection alive. Pros are, dual SIM capability is very handy for me. Like the camera and GPS. If you are planning to buy this phone, my suggestion is forget about a decent lasting WiFi comm. It chews up a fully charged battery in an hour. :( " |

"What a frustrating phone to use...... 1. Very poor battery life. 2. Internet explorer unusable because font size is too small and cannot be changed. 3. Windows Mobile 6.1 is frustrating slow to use. 4. Software is not intuitive to use. 5. No support available from Acer. 6. Mixture of Windows Mobile software and Spb Mobile software is very clumsily executed. 7. When searching for a contact with an apostrophe in the name, i.e. O'Connor etc, it does not recognize the '. Unless you really, really need a 3G dual sim phone then don't bother. I am going back to my two old phones. " |

"Hi All, I have this phone for 2 wks. The battery last for one day with moderate usage (Similar to DX800)after ROM upgrade. This is a stable and good Radio reception phone. I am quite happy with it now. It is more stable than DX800. Dx800 was teribly unstable and only become good after up grade to Panot's Cooked ROM. There are two problem of this PDA: 1.Memory leak, only 29 MB RAM available after clean boot. It will crash if you run TOMTOM and Microsoft media player at the same time. Hopefully, Panot will work on this phone to cook a better ROM for us. 2. Battery performance is poor." |

"A few comments regarding the Acer DX900’s camera. This is the first camera equipped mobile phone I’ve owned. Last night I attempted to take some shots at a fashion show. It appears that camera phones are not the best choice for “action” photography. It seems the issue is that the camera hardware is operated by an application that works through the Windows Mobile OS. So when you hit the shutter button, the software and the OS feel obliged to hold a parliamentary debate before an image can be released from the CMOS. This process seems to be taking upwards of a second; long enough for the action figures, in this case fashion models strutting down a runway, to move out of the picture. Conclusion, the camera is OK for non-action photography outdoors in sunlight: better use a real camera for everything else." |

"Yes this device is OK. Battery life is not what it should be but if enough of the features are turned off the battery will be good for more than a day. One trick is to put the more used SIM in the second slot and not use the 3G slot; that extends battery life to two days. It's also helpful to totally turn off the device when not in use. The camera has certain limitations such as the autofocus cannot be turned off, something which makes taking pictures through windows problematic, but it takes acceptable photos outdoors in the right lighting conditions. The dual SIM feature was very helpful on a recent trip. I would imagine that HTC will launch a more acceptable dual SIM device within three to six months but I couldn’t wait so I had no choice but to purchase the Acer." |

"Got my DX 900 now a week ago and I like it. The reason I bought it was the Dual SIM capability and this works very well. Also the GPS was one of the must haves and that also works quite good and quick also by catching the satellites in the streets of a city. Since it was not on the compatibility list of any navigation software supplier I got the test version on Navigon 7 and it works fine with the phone, so that I finally bought also the navigation software, which added 99 Euro to the whole investment. So far I like the phone and the features very much. The drawbacks that I experienced so far is the high power consumption that others also had reported. Its not a phone for people who can not put it on the charger at least once a day. If you use several features in parallel as bluetooth, both SIM cards and navigation, the battery charge does not take you very far. Another thing that I found missing is a JVM, since many small payment systems use java applets. I would have appreciated if this would be installed on the phone upfront as on my older PDA phone with Window Mobile 5. Despite this drawbacks, I like this phone very much and would by it again, ignoring the quite high price of more than 500 Euros for the whole investment if you add the Navigation solution to it." |
