"Got my HTC Shift this week and am extremely happy with it. Obviously if you are buying this as a beefed up phone you are wasting your time. It is an UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC), with the perfect form factor. Keyboard is usable enough for short typing sessions, but the handwriting recognition through Vista in tablet mode is excellent as well. Love the fingerprint sensor integration which not only means you don't need the keyboard/tablet to type those complicated uppercase/lowercase/special character password combinations. The battery life in Vista is not great, but this is really an issue for me - my work laptop won't last more than 2 hours so I wasn't expecting an improvement there. It's fine on trains and planes where you have a power point, and at least the power adapter, like the HTC Shift itself, is less than half the size and weight of a standard laptop. My main requirements were something lightweight to take on the road. The VGA port and wired/wireless ethernet capabilities make it ideal for running presentations, but also the disk size, superb 7" screen, and full USB and SD card support mean I can retire my Archos 604 for watching movies on the go or in hotel rooms. It's a great package, but definitely not for everyone. Not sure why the heck people think it needs GPS!! This device is way too heavy to ever be mounted in any way in a vehicle as a SatNav device. For that you want my other HTC device the Kaiser/TytnII (aka AT&T Tilt in the US). HTC are the total leaders in the world of ultra portable gadgets and this is no exception. "

"Got my HTC Shift. Keyboard is excellent. Quite fast with 1GB RAM. Vista Business and Windows family works quite well. Because of slow processor speed (800 MhZ) Dragon Dicating Software cannot be installed. A marvel to have with windows funtion. (I wish it had more RAM and more hard disk space). The screen protector is not good at all. The mobile part is rudimentary. Why did HTC have to add an half mobile ? The Qualcomm processor definitely adds in to the price. The data transfer is only with GSM. What harm has CDMA done? The phone is missing! My general view is, it is an excellent Windows Vista ultra-portable, but miserably fails on the mobile side. A spot of advice to HTC.....if you do something do it well, otherwise don't do it (THE MOBILE!)"
Aniruddha Bose (Kolkata, India)
"This looks really cool! I just hope the battery is not as bad as everyone says."
Lola (Orange)
"This is the perfect blend in a mobile devise. If HTC can now produce a smart phone with this software combination and add the GPS in it you will have a perfect devise. Nevertheless, I don't think there is a better portable laptop in the marker today!"
