Used by professionals and hobbyists the world over, iPad is the most recognisable tablet available today.
The New iPad (this is the 5th generation) delivers the sleekest, slimmest and most powerful tablet Apple has ever manufactured at the traditional 9.7" screen size.
Unlike the more portable Mini or souped-up Pro models, Apple's standard 9.7" iPad is the 'just-right' size for most people. Large enough to comfortably browse and watch videos, without being too big or bulky for handbags and satchels (or possibly very deep coat pockets...)
Manufactured from precision-milled aluminium and treated for a high-sheen finish, iPad is available in 3 colour options. Traditional Space Grey has the original iPad look, plus Silver & Gold models with white bezels are also available.
The iPad's front features the circular Apple home button with integrated Touch ID sensor. This will protect your iPad from unwanted access and also doubles to let you authorise purchases with Apple Pay and other downloads.
Elsewhere, the newest 5th Generation iPad also has a volume rocker, power and rear camera all neatly taking up one corner for easy access. A 3.5mm audio jack also lets you plug in your favourite headphones - perfect if you're settling in for a long commute.
Power & Performance
Inside the 5th Generation iPad is the future-proofed 64-bit Apple A9 processor, with M9 co-processor for advanced graphics and audio.
This chip is fast enough for high-end applications such as video and audio editing, 3D games and multiple downloads.
It's also power efficient and will keep the iPad ticking over for as long as possible - average usage puts the battery life of this new iPad at 10 hours of continuous use.
Known for top of the line image processing, Apple's phones and tablets have always exceeded expectations when it comes to their cameras.
Using the same technology found in the larger iPad Pro, the 5th Generation iPad has an 8MP main camera with precision optics and 1.2MP front-facing camera for selfies & FaceTime.
iOS 10 updates have improved the signal processor and other software elements specific to taking pictures. Apple's camera application gives you several options to set the scene before taking a picture, with additional filters for a more fun shot.
Burst mode allows for up to 10 pictures per second, with iPad able to detect smiles and blinks to suggest the best images. Video can be shot at 120 fps for super slow motion effects.
The front-facing FaceTime HD camera has been improved over previous iPad models, with larger pixels in the sensor for better low-light performance.
Once you've taken images or video, you can also edit them! Apple has included a full editing suite to adjust exposure, colour, brightness and contrast, as well as applying filters, stickers and animations.
When it comes to security, Touch ID has you covered. With Apple's own encryption based security, you can use your fingerprints as the ultimate password.
Created as part of the initial set-up procedure, all you need to do is press a finger to the home button on your iPad Pro to unlock the screen. The sapphire crystal coating is strong and resilient, taking a perfect image and resisting damage due to wear over time.
However, you can use Touch ID for more than just unlocking the screen. You can use your fingerprint to automatically sign into secure apps and other systems that require authorisation.
You can also verify your credentials to make one touch purchases in iTunes, iBooks, App Store and with Apple Pay at participating retailers.
iPad 5th Generation can be purchased in both a WiFi and Cellular models. The WiFi capabilities of both models now support 802.11ac for up to 866 Mbps throughput.
The high-speed Cellular version supports 4G LTE networks (where available) with over 20 international LTE bands. This makes iPad a truly portable and global companion.
First introduced with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iOS10 has a number of improvements.
The Messages app has a whole host of new features, so if you're chatting to someone else on an iOS10 device, you can take advantage of some cool new ways to interact.
Chat bubbles can be customised for a personal touch, plus you can also send handwritten messages. The recipients will see this written out as an animation, just as if you were drawing on their screen! You can also send 'invisible' messages. These can be text or pictures and are hidden until the recipient swipes over them.
Like emoji? The new chat system lets you highlight complete words and replace them. You can also move stickers around your chat room to complement individual bubbles.
Apple Maps has been thoroughly updated. The system now provides proactive suggestions based on your travel patterns, plus you can search for specific points of interest such as petrol stations or cafés that are on your planned route.
Have you started to develop a smart home? The new Home app can be integrated with a number of popular brands so you can use the iPhone to remotely control your connected devices.
Notifications have been updated so you can respond directly to messages with text or images without having to open the app.
Photos has also had an overhaul. The app can intelligently group images taken at the same location or date. If you take a lot of pictures then this can help you manage the overload of an ever increasing photo stream! An intelligent search function can also find images with certain aspects in the picture, such as 'beach' or 'dog'.
Multilingual? The new keyboard allows you to have two default languages so you can quickly switch between languages during a single message and still have predictive spellings provided.
