Each year we are treated to an iteration of the ever-popular iPhone range. For 2016, we have the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Keeping to the same sizes as last year's models, improvements have been made to the screen colouration, speakers, cameras, battery life and processor performance.
Subtle changes to the design mark the differences between the 6S models and the 7. One of the bigger changes is the departure from a physically clickable home button. Unlike the previous iPhone models, the home button is now a simple touchpad. You can use this in conjunction with Apple's TouchID system for fingerprint access to the phone, or use it similarly to a traditional button thanks to directional vibrations.
Apple use 7000 series aluminium to create a solid unibody construction. The colouring for each of the 5 finishes - silver, gold, rose gold and the new black and jet black - is mixed with the metal so the paintwork goes all the way through, minimising the effect of daily wear and tear.
Dual speakers have also been introduced to allow for a stereo speaker system. This makes the iPhone 7 twice as loud as the iPhone 6s, with more nuanced and detailed sound when listening to music.
The new Jet Black colouring and high gloss finish has been created through a nine step process of anodization and polishing. This is a stark contrast to the matte finished models, with a gloss so striking it's difficult to tell where the aluminium stops and the glass screen begins.
Jet Black is only available in 128GB and new 256GB storage sizes.
Apple have been heard to say that more pictures get taken with iPhones than any other camera in the world. Whether you believe that statement or not, the cameras are undoubtedly very important to the iPhone.
The new 12 MP main camera on iPhone 7 has an f/1.8 aperture and six-element lens for excellent results in varied scenarios, from brightly lit hilltops to dingy night clubs.
Improvements to the camera system include optical image stabilisation. This adjusts and compensates for the natural movement or shake of your hands and removes any blur from the final results. A sensor within the lens counteracts tiny movements, especially useful if you take pictures on a longer exposure.
Apple have also introduced a quad (4) LED flash system. This is up to 50% brighter then iPhone 6S flash. It's intelligent too, adjusting brightness to the colour temperature of the room and your subjects for more flattering and properly lit pictures.
Video recording is available in 4K resolution, with options for slow motion and time lapse at 1080p high definition.
The FaceTime HD camera has had the resolution improved to 7 megapixels. Up your selfie game or just treat your FaceTime recipients to a sharper image of your lovely self! The Retina Flash on the front of the iPhone 7 has also been improved to better light close up portraits in low light stiuations.
An image signal processor is built directly into the iPhone 7's A10 processor chip. This dedicated imaging hardware helps with faster autofocussing, image processing and colour mapping so you can keep shooting all day.
The size and resolution of iPhone 7's screen is the same as last year, however Apple have improved the brightness by 25%, excellent for outdoor use.
The colour palette has also been widened, and is now up to the same standard as digital cinema. This means there are more shades of the colour spectrum able to be shown, resulting in more realistic representation for your photos, videos and downloads. Netflix has never looked so good on the go!
3D Touch has also been revamped. iOS10 and the iPhone 7 hardware work together seamlessly to allow you to interact and react to messages, notifications and calendar elements in more responsive and meaningful methods.
The A10 processor is the fastest Apple have ever produced. Up to twice as fast at a given task as the iPhone 6, advanced power management also makes this the iPhone with the longest battery life.
This is thanks to a quad core design that more intelligently handles tasks, allowing the iPhone 7 to multitask better than ever. The graphics processing has also been enhanced. Games run more smoothly and video rendering is quicker than ever.
The first iPhone to receive an IP rating, iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are rated IP67. This means they are both engineered to be resistant to water and splashes.
Apple's own connector returns and this time it does more than just charge the iPhone. Apple have removed the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 range to keep the phone slimmer and aid in water resistance.
This means that the Lightning port can now be used for listening to music. Apple provide a new pair of EarPods in the box which use a lightning connector. There is also a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter so you can continue to use your favourite traditional headphones if you prefer them.
Alongside the change in audio connectors, Apple have also developed a new wireless protocol for audio. Using the W1 chip of their own design, Apple's new AirPods are truly wireless earphones.
These sit in your ears like any other earphones, however they are completely wireless - there's not even a cable keeping them together!
A new generation of Beats headphones that use the W1 chip will also be released soon.
Launching for the first time with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iOS10 is possibly the biggest update to iOS since its original release.
The Messages app has a whole host of new features, so if you're chatting to another iPhone user, you can take advantage of some cool new ways to interact.
Chat bubbles can be customised for a personal touch, plus you can also send handwritten messages. The recipients will see this written out as an animation, just as if you were drawing on their screen! You can also send 'invisible' messages. These can be text or pictures and are hidden until the recipient swipes over them.
Like emoji? The new chat system lets you highlight complete words and replace them. You can also move stickers around your chat room to complement individual bubbles.
Apple Maps has been thoroughly updated. The system now provides proactive suggestions based on your travel patterns, plus you can search for specific points of interest such as petrol stations or cafés that are on your planned route.
Have you started to develop a smart home? The new Home app can be integrated with a number of popular brands so you can use the iPhone to remotely control your connected devices.
Notifications have been updated so you can respond directly to messages with text or images without having to open the app.
Photos has also had an overhaul. The app can intelligently group images taken at the same location or date. If you take a lot of pictures then this can help you manage the overload of an ever increasing photo stream! An intelligent search function can also find images with certain aspects in the picture, such as 'beach' or 'dog'.
Multilingual? The new keyboard allows you to have two default languages so you can quickly switch between languages during a single message and still have predictive spellings provided.
