The Nokia 216 is a solid feature phone from the masters of mobile communication.
Returning to the mainstream in 2017, Nokia is a brand that still commands respect.
Later this year we will see their new smartphones. Until then, we can enjoy a return to their roots with a range of simple and affordable feature phones running the Series 30+ operating system. These include the simple 105 and 150 models.
The 216 is the most advanced of these, with a 2.4" QVGA (320 x 240) full-colour screen and 2.5G data support for basic web browsing.
This screen is also large enough to enjoy images taken yourself or sent to you by friends and family.
Available in three colour finishes, the 216 has a basic candy bar design with the screen up top and a traditional numeric keypad below. This allows for quick dialling of numbers and text messages with T9 predictive precision.
Navigating through menus can be done with the 4-way Navi key just underneath the screen. Option keys and dedicated answer/end call keys are useful for quick response to incoming calls.
Want to pass the time waiting in line or on the bus? Nokia has installed some basic games (Snake anyone?), along with a free new download from Gameloft every month for a year.
Other features of the Nokia 216 include both rear and front-facing VGA cameras with LED flash on both sides. The rear LED flash can also be used as a torch.
Also available is an FM radio, MP3 player and video player. Micro SD cards, up to 32GB, (sold separately) can be installed to store music, videos and images.
