DJI Phantom 4 Advanced Main Features
New 20MP 1-inch sensor
This new camera sensor has been custom-engineered for the DJI Phantom 4. The lens is manufactured with eight-element arranged in seven groups.
A mechanical aperture has been designed to remove rolling shutter distortion when taking stills of fast-moving objects or attempting to film at high speed with manual focus.
These upgrades bring the camera in line with many high-tier ground video cameras.
Video processing has also been updated, with the Phantom 4 Advanced supporting native 4K video recording at 60 fps in H.264, or 30 fps in H.265. Both options are delivered at an uninterrupted 100Mbps bitrate.
Five vision sensors & two-directional obstacle sensing
Phantom 4 Advanced features the FlightAutonomy system composed of 5 vision sensors. This is combined with dual-band satellite positioning (GPS / GLONASS), rangefinders and redundant sensors.
Dual forward vision sensors can view obstacles up to 30 metres in front, enable auto brake, hover and detour obstacles within a 15-metre range.
Included with the Phantom 4 Advanced is the most up to date controller with LightBridge HD video transmission technology.
The maximum video transmission range between controller and drone is 4.3 miles (7 km), provided a direct line of sight and optimum conditions.
Further integrated into the controller is an HDMI port, micro SD card slot, microphone, loudspeaker and WiFi. There are also editing features built directly into the controller. This allows for editing and sharing on the move.
If you choose the Phantom 4 Advanced Plus model, you can benefit from an integrated 5.5" screen to keep your personal mobile device separate.
This is an excellent addition for automated waypoint control during flight. Using your smartphone screen in Live View mode, simply draw a flight path. Your Phantom 4 Advanced will now follow this route autonomously, avoiding any obstacles that may appear in its path.
Using Draw, a pilot can set out a path then focus solely on the camera control for complex shooting.
Draw operates in both standard and manual modes. Standard has the drone following the planned route at a constant speed, with the camera trained ahead in the direction of flight. Manual will set the drone to fly/stop on instruction, and provide the pilot with full directional control of the camera.
With ActiveTrack, you can identify subjects to follow. The Phantom 4 Advanced can then follow them as they move, keeping them in the frame even at high speeds.
This mode can be used to more easily obtain complex and difficult tracking shots of fast-moving people, animals or vehicles, that would otherwise require precise piloting and camera control simultaneously.
3 options are available in ActiveTrack: Trace, Profile and Spotlight.
Trace follows behind or in front of the subject with automatic obstacle avoidance. Profile flies alongside a subject with varying angles. Spotlight keeps the camera trained on the subject with free flight surrounding it.
Similar to Draw, TapFly provides you with the ability to fly anywhere in view of the camera with a tap on the screen of your controller. This allows for a simplified automatic flight to a set waypoint, where you might not need fine control.
Free mode travels the drone towards the tap and unlocks the camera for full directional control (obstacle avoidance not currently supported in TapFly Free mode).
Return To Home (RTH)
Always aware of the remaining battery flight time and where it has been, Phantom 4 Advanced features the most advanced Return To Home feature of any consumer DJI model.
If the control signal from your controller is lost, Phantom 4 Advanced will automatically return on the route it took to its current location, intelligently avoiding any new obstacles that may appear.
The drone also remembers the scene below its takeoff point and will compare this against what it can see at return. This allows the drone to avoid any new obstacles, including water, and either land in a suitable spot close by, or hover at a low altitude ready to be collected.
Return To Home will be activated automatically when the control signal is lost when the battery depleted to a point whereby there is only slightly more than enough flight time remaining to return, or when requested by the pilot.
The Phantom 4 Advanced software can now recognise subject's gestures. If a person is in the camera's frame, they can face the camera and lift their arms. The camera will centre the subject in the frame and start a 3-second countdown - enough time to strike a pose - before an image is captured.
For any UAV the compass and IMU modules are very important to ensure stable flight. Phantom 4 Advanced has two of each and constantly compares the data for both. Complex algorithms check the paired data to counter any inaccuracies for the smoothest possible journey.
At 30 minutes this is now the longest available flight time for a consumer DJI drone.
Via the DJI GO app integrated into the controller, you can get a real-time display of remaining battery capacity and flight time.
You can also receive warnings and alerts as you approach the maximum safe distance from takeoff, calculated by remaining flight time.
Within the battery is an intelligent battery care system to avoid overcharging or draining, maintaining the maximum capacity for as long as possible. When stored, batteries will discharge slowly to maintain good health.
The DJI GO app is fully integrated into the Phantom 4 Advanced Controller. From this, you have access to several Intelligent Flight Modes.
There is also a professional camera mode with settings for ISO, aperture, shutter speed, saved image formats and much more.
Live view from the camera, flight data and statistics, battery life and video transmission strength/status are all also available.
No Fly Zones
It is the responsibility of the drone / UAV pilot to respect no-fly zones and local aviation laws when controlling their DJI Phantom product.

A No Fly Zones feature is incorporated into DJI products which, using GPS to locate the drone's position, should stop them from entering restricted areas.
This should not be relied upon however in the case of hardware / GPS failure, and the pilot should always remain vigilant of their location.

What are the main differences between the Phantom 4 Advanced and the Phantom 4 Pro range?
The Phantom 4 Advanced inherits most of the functions of the Phantom 4 Pro.
However, in order to increase affordability, unlike the Phantom 4 Pro, the Phantom 4 Advanced does not have rear vision sensors and two infrared sensors in its FlightAutonomy system.
