Over the last few years Fitbit have helped to bring easily accessible fitness goals and friendly competition into the mainstream with their range of pedometers and fitness bands.

With current technology, it was almost inevitable that a successful range that includes the Charge HR and feature-filled Surge would evolve into a fully fledged smartwatch.

The Blaze is the first Fitbit product to offer a full-colour touch screen, from where you can view and share the information you’ve come to expect from Fitbit: steps, distance, heart-rate and calories burned.

Taking advantage of the anonymous data Fitbit have collected over the years, the Blaze is now intelligent enough to know when you are engaged in a particular type of exercise or activity including tennis, basketball, soccer, elliptical machine workouts or just plain old running or walking.

This allows for a more accurate calculation of your burned calories and energy expenditure! The built in Fitstar app also offers guided workouts to help you achieve and exceed your personal goals – get step-by-step instructions and coaching right on your wrist!

Smart Features

Of course this couldn’t be considered a smartwatch without some extra features that go beyond other fitness bands. Compatible with over 200 Android smartphones and the most recent iPhones, the Blaze is able to synchronise texts and calendar alerts, as well as inform you of incoming calls.

You can control the music playback on your phone (or dedicated Bluetooth music player), plus it’s also able to use the GPS data from your phone to assist in your fitness analysis.


Included with the Fitbit Blaze is a classic fluoroelastomer band in your chosen colour. Fluoroelastomers have been developed to be soft and comfortable, while not stretching out of shape or being damaged by exposure to sweat, oils or extreme heat – perfect for an always-on wearable you can take jogging in winter or climbing in the sun.

This is quickly swappable with new colours, or stylish leather and metal bands, all sold separately.

The octagonal metallic casing acts as a shell for the core Blaze unit, which can be removed and popped into your pocket if required.

Wear and Care

Our products are meant to be worn all day and night, so it’s important to follow a few simple guidelines as you wear and care for your device. To keep your band clean and your skin happy, our board of certified dermatologists have outlined the following tips:

Keep it Clean

Regularly clean your band and wrist—especially after working out, sweating, or exposing your skin to substances like soaps and lotions, which can get trapped beneath the band.

To clean your band, do not use household cleansers. Instead, use a soapless cleanser, rinse well, and dry it off with a soft towel.

For tough spots or stains, scrub with a wet soft-bristled toothbrush, and then follow the steps above.

Keep it Dry

While Fitbit devices are water resistant, it’s not good to keep a wet band on your skin for long periods of time.

If your band gets wet—like after sweating or showering—rinse and dry it thoroughly before putting it back on your wrist.

Be sure your skin is dry before you put your band back on.

Give your Wrist a Rest

Make sure your band isn’t too tight. We recommend leaving enough room for your pinky to slide between the band and your wrist.

If you use Charge HR or Surge, you may choose to tighten the band during workouts for the most accurate heart rate readings. If so, remember to loosen the band when you’re finished.

Prolonged rubbing and pressure may irritate the skin, so give your wrist a break by removing the band for an hour after extended wear.

Other Tips

If you have eczema, allergies, or asthma you may be more likely to experience a skin irritation or allergy from a wearable device.

Whether you have the conditions above or not, if you start to experience redness or skin irritation on your wrist, remove your device. If symptoms persist longer than 2-3 days of not using your device, contact a dermatologist.

If you sweat for more than two hours while wearing your Fitbit band, be sure to wash your band and your wrist using the directions above to avoid skin irritation.

Heart Rate During Workouts – Best practices for PurePulse™ accuracy

Fitbit PurePulse™ trackers help you get the heart rate stats you want, right on your wrist—automatically, all-day, during workouts and beyond—with no need for an uncomfortable chest strap.

Like all heart-rate monitoring technologies, accuracy is affected by physiology, location of device, and different movements. To get the most accurate heart rate reading during workouts, follow these three steps:

Move it up.

Since blood increases further up your arm, wear your tracker higher on your wrist to improve the heart rate signal during workouts. Start by moving the device up to three finger widths above your wrist bone, then experiment with slightly lower placement.

Keep it secure.

The less your tracker moves during exercise, the more chance you have of maintaining a heart rate signal throughout the activity. Do not wear the band too tightly, as this can restrict blood flow and goes against our wear and care guidelines.

Hold steady for ten seconds.

High intensity exercises or activities that cause you to keep your wrist bent (like push-ups) or move your arms vigorously (like dance) may interfere with heart rate signals. If you stop seeing a signal during these types of activities, hold your wrist steady for ten seconds during breaks to get your reading.

However you choose to get in a good sweat, checking your heart rate during exercise helps you gauge your effort and adjust workouts on the spot to ensure you’re pushing yourself hard enough without overtraining.
