Linx 1010 Windows 10 Tablet Overview

Looking to join the computing revolution with Windows 10? The Linx 1010 is the perfect way to get up and running with Microsoft's groundbreaking new operating system.

Featuring a powerful quad-core Intel Atom processor for mobile devices, the Linx 1010 helps you stay connected and productive whilst on the move.

With an optional keyboard dock with trackpad, you can even turn the Linx 1010 into a complete workstation. This versatility allows for portable entertainment with the opportunity to get a bit of important sit-down work done too.

With 2 full size USB ports, you can also connect an external mouse and other peripherals for a full Windows desktop experience.

Windows 10

Launching to critical acclaim accross the world, Microsoft's new Windows 10 operating system promises to be the last version of Windows you'll ever need.

Rather then making a completely new system every few years, Windows 10 will now be upgraded continuously.

The Linx 1010 has Windows 10 Home version installed, so you have access to Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile, Excel Mobile and OneNote out of the box.

You can also make use of Microsoft's new personal assistant, Cortana, to help with searches and organising your schedules.

Windows 10 lets you snap up to four apps on the screen simultaneously, as well as creating virtual desktops for more space.

The new Continuum feature allows for apps and content to display perfectly in all modes, whether you prefer to work as a touch-focused tablet or in the more traditional keyboard-and-mouse desktop method.

  • Steve Eustace 20/5/2016 Recommend to a friend? Yes

First off, Microsoft has recently lent me a Linx 1010 for review. I appreciate being able to use this loan unit but that has not influenced my opinion of the device or of Microsoft – this is my personal view and Microsoft have no influence directly or indirectly on my opinions.

I also have to say I have a Surface Pro 3, so I compare it to that slightly.

We’ll start with the good bits about this tablet, first off is the price, yet it’s cheap, but value for money it’s outstanding. Not as refined as my SP3 but it costs £650 less!

The screen is acceptable for a 10” tablet and the bezels and not excessive. While it feels OK to the touch it’s not as ‘silky’ as I’m used to, probably because it hasn’t an Oleophobic coating, so you’ll need to clean it regularly.

It has a good range of ports, 2x Full size USB, 1x micro USB (also for charging) and a mini-HDMI. I didn’t have any Wi-Fi issues that I’ve read on other reviews, possibly the drivers have been updated since then.

The battery life is good, but it needs to be because it takes ages to charge with the 2A charger supplied, but I guess this is true of all tablets which use USB for charging.

The sound is OK, but nothing earths shattering. But the level of sound is very low and you might want to invest in speakers (USB or Bluetooth) if you plan to watch a lot of movies.

It only has 32GB of storage, which will be OK unless you want loads of movies etc stored on the device, but there is an SD card slot to add more. The manual says you can add a 32GB maximum, but actually a 128GB card works fine.

Although it only has an Aton processor and 2GB of memory and I expected it to be quite sluggish, but I was presently surprised as it nips along quite nicely. It does struggle when pushed, but unlike the SP3, this isn’t a device to replace a full blown PC or laptop.

The model I tried had a keyboard with it, I just wish they had taken more time to actually think why people want a keyboard on a tablet. First off the touch pad is small and not very responsive, especially when scrolling, so much I gave up and used the touch screen.

Typing isn’t too bad on the keyboard, but it doesn’t fold back enough and if you try to push the screen back too much it comes detached from the keyboard.

The worst thing was the weight of the keyboard, it weighs nearly as much as the tablet! This is due to the screen connector being metal, so when you carry the tablet with the keyboard attached it weighs a ton!

So to review, this is a great little tablet which excellent value for money, but don’t bother with the keyboard!
