5" Super AMOLED
Demand for large-screened devices has been increasing steadily over the last couple of years and BlackBerry has stepped up with a superb offering. The Super AMOLED display of the Z30 measures 5" diagonally, dwarfing the 4.2" display of its predecessor, the Z10.
Traditionally BlackBerry has been known for manufacturing handsets with physical keyboards, but the Z10 demonstrated that it can successfully turn its hand to touch screen devices as well. The Z30 builds on the strong foundation laid by the Z10 - however it has a larger screen, more powerful processor and extended battery life.
BlackBerry messenger has never been better thanks to the large, vivid display of the Z30. The two combine magnificently to provide face to face video chat, and you also have the option to share what is on your screen. The Z30 also features BlackBerry natural sound technology, ensuring that all messages are delivered loud and clear.
The Z30 boasts an impressive 8MP camera that comes with a range of features. The Back Side Illumination sensor bolsters low-light shots, while the 5-element F2.2 lens keeps your photographs looking as sharp as possible.
Other features include flash; continuous or touch to focus; and image stabilisation. There is also
5x Digital Zoom and 1080p HD Video recording.
The front facing camera - all important for those face to face BBM calls - has a 2MP sensor, image and video stabilisation, 3x digital zoom and 720p video calling. All in all it's a decent camera offering and the best seen in a BlackBerry device.
BlackBerry Priority Hub
With just a single swipe on your Z30, you have quick, convenient access to your most important messages and activities. BlackBerry Priority Hub learns from your activity to create a list of the communications that are most important to you. View text messages, caller activity, BBM updates, email communication and more, in a global inbox - no need to continuously switch between different apps.
As is expected of a top of the range flagship handset, the Z30 has a strong set of connectivity features: Wi-Fi, quad-band 3G and 4G, Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy, NFC and Miracast give you a variety of ways to connect to other people and devices.
All these features bode well for the internet browser, as does BlackBerry's Reader mode, which will simplify the web page that you're browsing in order to reduce distractions.
Did we already mention that the Z30 is BlackBerry's most powerful device yet? It has a Dual-Core 1.7GHz processor and 2GB RAM. This gives it enough oomph to power any of the apps that you can throw at it and creates a super smooth user-experience when browsing the device.
The BlackBerry Z30 comes with 16GB internal storage, which can be expanded by another 64GB via its microSD slot. This provides plenty of room for storing music, video and any other file types that you may need.
Thanks to their strong business reputation, BlackBerry devices have become synonymous with the workaholic. It can be very difficult to switch off from the office, especially when your phone displays constant reminders of what needs to be done.
This is where BlackBerry balance comes to the rescue. It creates a separate profile for your work and home lives and provides the means to seamlessly switch between the two. Once you leave the office, switch to your home profile and leave the emails behind.
A large screen needs lots of power so BlackBerry has included a 2880mAh battery with the Z30, which it says will provide '25 hours of mixed usage'. Talk time is slated for up to 18 hours and standby time 16 days.
Giving a good presentation is one of the requirements of many corporate roles. The BlackBerry Z30 is your calming companion when it comes to this, thanks to its micro HDMI port, which makes it easy to connect your device to a large display or projector.
The Z10 comes with Documents To Go pre-installed, making it simple to share and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Whether it's one of these that you need to share with a group of colleagues or a video with friends and family, the Z30's HDMI connection makes the process swift and simple.
Should you forget to take the micro HDMI cable with you somewhere, all is not lost. The Z30 also has Miracast capability, so you can wireless stream your device's screen to a compatible display if necessary.
