Doro has for a long time made modern technology more accessible to both senior users or other groups that may find it difficult to access or learn such products.

Their range of products spans simple home phones, connected accessibility units for care homes and more recently consumer smartphones.

Built using the popular Android operating system, Doro smartphones have a unique, custom interface that has been developed to simplify the task of learning a modern smartphone system.

With the 8020x you will be able to use modern smartphone features including Internet access, email, GPS and more.

Beyond that, the phone has also been manufactured with a more rugged case than usual. This adds some extra weight to the phone but helps it to withstand knocks and drops - a bonus for anyone who may have difficulty with their grip.

An IP67 rating is also present, which provides water resistance to a depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.

As with other recent Doro smartphones, the "My Doro Manager" application has been installed on the phone. This allows family members, or other trusted people, to able to remotely access your phone. This can help in adding contacts, alarms, reminders or adding new programs.

Doro has kept the design of the 8020x very simple. The handset looks just like any other modern smartphone, albeit a bit thicker and weightier.

The rear panel of the phone has a textured, rugged finish that aids grip and stops it sliding on smooth surfaces.

Control buttons on the sides are for power and volume, as well as an SOS assistance button that can be configured to call or send messages to predetermined contacts.

Underneath the screen, there are three physical Android control buttons. The Home button in the centre brings you back to the phone's 'home' screen, no matter where you may have navigated to. The 'Back' button on the right returns to the previous screen you were viewing and the 'multitasking' button on the left will show a list of all running programs for you to move to or close.

To protect the screen, Doro has used Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This high-quality material has been used on several popular smartphones and is highly resistant to scratches and nicks.

The corners and edges of the 8020x casing have been reinforced to resist impact damage if the phone is dropped.

In order to maintain the IP67 waterproofing, the 3.5mm audio jack and SIM/memory card tray are located underneath a cover on the top of the phone. This can be popped open by hand or with a tool for those with reduced mobility in the hands.

The underlying operating system of the Doro 8020x is the popular and widely used Android by Google. The 8020x has the 6.0 version installed, otherwise known as 'Marshmallow'.

The usual interface and design of the system have been radically overhauled by Doro, to provide a simple and intuitive system to navigate.

An initial set up procedure provides a detailed, yet easy to understand, demonstration of how to use various features and is tailored towards complete smartphone novices, so anyone should be able to pick up the Doro with confidence.

Commonly used features such as calling and text messaging are placed front and centre of the main interface after it has been set up. On-screen controls and interactive keys have been made large and bright, plus text is resizable.

Individual contacts you may call or message frequently can be placed onto your home screen for quick access, rather than looking through a list to locate them.

If you already have experience with the Android system or are comfortable with looking at more detailed settings, you can access all of the underlying Android menus and features by pressing the 'Advanced' option from within the main settings menu of the Doro interface.

The Doro 8020x aimed towards new smartphone users, however, there are a number of modern hardware features too. These make it a product which will maintain relevance for a number of years to come.

You will find that both 3G and 4G mobile data networks are supported, so you browse the Internet on the go away from your home Wi-Fi connection, should you have a compatible plan from your mobile network provider.

A 5-megapixel camera is included to take good quality pictures of yourself, friends and surroundings, with a dedicated camera shutter button that makes the phone as simple to use as a dedicated point-and-shoot digital camera. You can also add an external memory card to store more images.

FM radio is also included. When a pair of earphones is connected, you can tune into FM radio stations.

Volume has seven discrete levels, with a maximum receiving amplification of 35 dB. The ringer has been tested to provide a maximum volume of 91 dB(A) at 1 metre so should be audible for those who are hard of hearing.

Like most Doro devices, the 8020x is also Hearing Aid Compatible, certified to T4/M4 (3G), T4/M3 (2G) products.
