Motorola's Play range of phones has been popular for a few years now, thanks to catering for the more media focused consumer.
With large high-definition screens and batteries Play models literally let you play for longer, be that gaming, browsing, streaming or shopping.
The Z2 Play also suits those who want a powerful experience but have a more moderate budget than the top-tier flagship smartphones ask for.
With the Z2 Play you can still enjoy up to date content from the world's leading streaming services and games, plus get a fairly powerful camera, without stretching your finances to their limit!
Keeping the costs down are the use of high-quality mid-range components. For instance, the screen, whilst still large and using colour-rich Super AMOLED technology, is a standard 1080p resolution rather than 2K. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is also used instead of the most recent version 5.
The choice of processor is also very shrewd. Qualcomm's 2.2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 is built exactly for this purpose: offering snappy everyday performance, multitasking and power efficiency, without being the expensive super-processor that is the 82x range.
Just like the previous generation of Z handsets, the Z2 Play can take advantage of the full range of Moto Mods.
These handy accessories each offer a unique addition, such as a portable projector, enhanced speaker, additional power or a full optical zoom camera lens.
Mods simply clip onto the back of the handset and are held in place by strong magnets. The gold contacts near the bottom of the phone handle communication and power transfer.
The Moto software has also been intimately designed with the Mods in mind, so they will instantly pair and disconnect, with on-screen notifications for remaining power and other feedback.
On the back of the Moto Z Play is a 16-megapixel camera with dual autofocus technology. Phase detection and laser autofocus work together to produce incredible results at high speed.
With an ƒ / 2.0 aperture and 1.3 um pixel size, the main camera does well in low light environments, plus the dual tone LED flash helps to naturally balance colours in difficult scenarios.
The front facing camera also has a respectable 5 MP resolution, with an 85° wide-angle lens to better capture group selfies.
3,000 mAh battery & TurboPower
With a 3,000 mAh capacity, the Moto Z2 Play is capable of providing up to 30 hours' use on a single charge.
Should you happen to be running low then don't panic! The included TurboPower charger uses QuickChare technology to ensure you can top up quickly. It only takes 15 minutes to give you up to 8 hours' use. So you can fill up over half the phone's battery in just half an hour.
As technology moves on so do the connectors and cables we find adorning our offices, studies and bedrooms.
The most recent change in the mobile landscape is the use of the new USB Type-C connector. More common in 2017 than it was last year, this may still be the first time you come across it.
Designed to replace all future USB connections, Type-C is a reversible socket with support for high-speed charging and data transfer. The Moto Z2 Play takes advantage of both of these features, implementing the USB 3.1 standard for high-speed file transfers and developing their own TurboPower USB chargers.
