Motorola's Moto G range has been redefining affordable smartphones since the first generation launched in late 2013. The Moto G's purpose has been to provide a basic, yet fully-featured, smartphone that anyone can use, and always at an affordable price.
Each version of the Moto G has improved on the specification but kept this core ethos the same, appealing to the budget conscious, first-time users or just those who want something up to date but aren't all that interested in spending money on more fashionable brands and unneeded features.
For 2016, Motorola have expanded out the G line into 3 separate products. The Moto G4 sits in the middle, both in features and price.
At Clove Technology we provide only UK SIM free specification models of the Moto G (4th Generation). These are delivered factory unlocked for use on any UK or EU network.
For 3G and 4G/LTE connectivity outside of Europe, please check the frequency specifications and your local operator for compatibility.
In addition some variants of the Moto G4 benefits from having dual-SIM functionality so you can have two SIM cards in the phone simultaneously. This allows you to run 2 phone numbers at the same time, letting you separate work and personal calls, or perhaps keep an international card alongside your home one when travelling.
Listed below are the various versions of the G4 Plus Motorola offer around the world. Clove Technology may not offer all of these versions if they are not released in the UK. Please check the options for sale above when purchasing from Clove.
The Moto G 4th Generation is available in Black or White colour options with the choice of the following configurations:
- 16GB internal storage / 2GB RAM
- 32GB internal storage / 2GB RAM
- Motorola Moto G4 (UK SIM Free specification)
- 3 PIN UK mains adapter
An affordable smartphone for everybody, the Moto G4 offers an excellent combination of modern features and performance at a price that doesn't leave you with an empty bank account.
The Moto G range has been redefining what people can expect from a budget smartphone for the last few years. Now into its 4th generation in 2016, Motorola have split the G brand into 3 separate phones at 3 distinct price tiers.
Each new Moto G is aimed at a different type of person. The cheapest G Play is a no-frills affair that showcases how to produce a low-cost smartphone that still has an up to date operating system and features. The slightly more expensive G Plus delivers features usually only seen in premium smartphones, such as laser autofocus in the camera, and a fingerprint sensor housed in a physical home button.
The middle of the pack G4 you're reading about now sits between the two.
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
The latest version of Google's OS, Android 6 (Marshmallow) is installed on the Moto G4.
New features in Android 6.0 include improved security and a new permissions feature. This means that when you install new applications they have to ask you when they access certain features of the system such as the camera or your contacts list. You can then allow or deny that access, giving you more control over your phone.
Memory management has changed in Android 6.0 too. For several years, you haven't been able to install apps directly to an SD card. Instead it could only be used to store media such as pictures, videos and music. Now when you install a memory card, Android will ask you if you want to make it part of the internal storage. If you do this then it is as if the card is 'part' of the phone, so you can properly increase your storage and run apps off the card. The only trade off is that you will now not be able to swap that card out to another phone - it will have to stay in the phone.
Finally there have been several improvements to battery life and power saving. Android 6.0 now puts apps to sleep in a much better fashion.
If you regularly leave apps running without closing them down, Android is now clever enough to stop them draining the battery but still let them wake up if they receive information.
5.5" Full HD Screen
A Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen is included on the Moto G range for the first time.
Measuring 5.5 inches, there is plenty of space to read, play games, browse the web, shop, watch videos - whatever you need to do!
Often only seen on more expensive phones, the Moto G4 has support for Turbo Charging. You don't get a fast charger in the box, but if you invest in any of the compatible chargers from a major manufacturer then you can top up to 6 hours of charge in just 15 minutes!
Updated Camera App
The 13 MP camera on the G4 can capture the same great images as last year's phone, although on the G4 you can take advantage of the new Moto Camera app.
New features include 'Best Shot' which takes multiple pictures just before and after you shoot, then lets you select your favourite. Perfect if you often find yourself getting pictures that aren't quite right.
There is also a new 'Professional Mode' which overlays more advanced controls for the camera, making the experience closer to a traditional digital camera.
