Following the global success of Nokia's 2017 rebranding and release of the 3, 5 and 6 smartphones, they have decided to up the ante with the Nokia 8.
The core philosophy is still to offer a beautifully constructed phone that carries the Nokia brand with pride, whilst keeping it affordable and not loading it up with additional, unwanted apps and features.
Nokia 8, therefore, delivers pure Android 7.1.1, with a commitment from Nokia to provide timely updates and security patches. The additions to Android are seamlessly folded into the operating system.
The Nokia 8 from Clove Technology will be provided SIM Free and ready to work on all compatible UK and European networks.
The phone uses a NANO SIM card. For LTE compatibility outside of Europe, please check the specifications with your local operator.
The Nokia 8 is manufactured in Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, Copper and Steel finishes. All models are sold with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
UK stock is Single SIM only. Dual SIM stock can be obtained, although this is EU spec
Following a successful launch of some entry level and mid-range smartphones, the newly rebranded Nokia has seen fit to manufacture a more premium tier phone.
The Nokia 8 looks to be the smartphone that should entice anyone loyal to the Nokia brand, who wants a modern handset with a bit more power than the 5 or 6 can offer.
It only takes one look at the Nokia 8 to realise that this is top of the range manufacturing. The handset is crafted from a single block of aluminium with a 40-stage process of machining, anodising and polishing.
The result is a distinctive, slim and tactile smartphone. 4 different colours are available; Polished Blue and Copper with an eye-catching high-gloss finish, or Tempered Blue and Steel with a more tactile, sandblasted effect.
Balanced well in the hand, Nokia 8's tapered edges feel great in the hand, providing ample space for all standard ports: 3.5mm audio jack, new USB Type-C data/charging port, hardware buttons and speakers.
On the rear of the phone, the vertically aligned dual-camera system and flash sit flush to the body allowing the phone to sit flat on any surface.
Forget the #selfie... experience the #bothie!
Nokia 8 has a specialised camera application that can use both the front and rear 13MP colour cameras at once. This can be used for still images and video calls, with the results split perfectly on the screen.
On the back of the camera is a dual-sensor system. Both rear cameras have 13MP sensors; one is full-colour RGB and the other monochromatic black and white. This lets you take native black and white imagery without additional software features, as well
This lets you take native black and white imagery without additional software features, as well as improving the time to focus and develop fine details on standard images.
Nokia has also built single-tap sharing to Facebook Live and YouTube into the video camera. You're never more than a few taps away from sharing your experiences with your friends and the wider world.
ZEISS is a powerhouse in the imaging industry. Known for manufacturing incredibly precise optics, their stamp of approval is a sign of a quality photography instrument.
All three cameras in the Nokia 8 feature ZEISS optics so you can be assured of the best possible quality at the moment.
A new system developed by Nokia, OZO Audio uses spatial audio technology, with 3D capture and playback capabilities.
This technology has been integrated into the Nokia 8 system software to enhance any recordings you make, as well as improving the quality of playback through headphones.
Using 3 microphones, Nokia 8 can record spatial 360° audio. The resulting files are then optimised for playback through headphones and audio systems with spatial audio support. The new 3D audio distribution file format is lightweight and also suited to VR devices which support head tracking.
When played back on non-OZO systems, the resulting file is played back in high-fidelity stereo sound. OZO uses the widely supported AAC codec and is future-proofed and compatible with leading VR manufacturers and developers.
Android 7.1.1 Nougat is at the heart of the Nokia 8, with an upgrade to 8.0 Nougat due soon after launch. Nokia has kept the interface of their Android installation just as Google intended.
You simply have the traditional suite of Google applications that ship with Google Play. The only additional features are mentioned above: the Dual-Sight camera system and OZO audio.
These features have been built into their respective apps in a manner that doesn't impact the Android system interface, keeping the Nokia 8 as simple to operate as possible.
Google Assistant is also available out of the box, ready to respond to queries, synchronise aspects of your Google account and interact with Google Home hardware around your home.
Nokia has also committed to bringing regular, timely security patches and updates to the Nokia 8, as well as other Nokia smartphones.
