With dozens of Android smartphone manufacturers vying for attention, including long-established brands, Wileyfox have decided it's time for something a little different.
Taking the concept of an affordable and powerful Android smartphone, they have made the decision to use the Cyanogen version of the operating system rather than a traditional installation.
This decision, alongside a customer service proposition that values individual users and their personal choices in how to use their phone, marks them out as a different breed.
Wileyfox have also opted for high quality component manufacturers. Unlike some budget brands, you will find top quality processors, camera modules and memory inside your phone from the likes of Qualcomm, Samsung and Sony.
Based on the Android mobile platform, the Cyanogen OS is an open source project, contributed to by developers from all over the world.
Created with the ethos of empowering the user by not limiting access to features and allowing high levels of customisation, the Cyanogen OS is a world apart from the heavily curated versions of Android available on big name handsets such as Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG and Motorola.
It also presents more choice and options than the recent versions of Google's own stock Android, which many users have said is now far more restrictive than the original intentions ever were.
Cyanogen focusses on user customisation, performance and security.
First up is the world of Themes. Offering far more than the usual wallpaper or sometimes access to fonts, Cyanogen Themes allow for incredibly deep customisation.
There are hundreds of premade themes in the Cyanogen gallery, with more being added by respected community members every week. Why stop there though? With the Theme Chooser you can mix and match parts of any current theme to build your own.
Want to change the settings icon? Upload a new one. After a new tune or video to play when the phone turns on? Do it. How about changing the lockscreen layout.
Cyanogen OS even allows you to change the interaction with the device. You can change the response to actions such as Long Press, Tap or Double Tap and create your own shortcuts from gestures inputted on the lockscreen.
Other manufacturers create software for a single phone then rarely, if ever, update it properly. Cyanogen has been developed and worked on daily for well over 5 years. The system has been optimised by skilled and passionate developers whose ultimate goal is to create something they would be happy to use every day.
One of the most obvious positives from this work is increased battery life, along with the ability for you as the user to adjust & modify battery use to individual apps to eke out extra hours if necessary.
Cyanogen have introduced Privacy Guard - this is a simple application that lets you see exactly what your phone is revealing to the world. If an app is accessing files or sending out information you don't want it to, then you can easily find out.
PIN scramble is a neat feature to randomise the numbers for your PIN every time it loads the keypad. Now people won't be able to reconstruct your PIN from smudges on the screen or watching where your fingers go.
Remote tracking and wiping of your phone is possible from your (optional) Cyanogen account.
You can use Protected Apps to lock certain applications behind a PIN or pattern lock, even after you're on the home screen. Put apps and shortcuts inside secure folders to avoid data leak or just plain, old-fashioned embarrassment if someone picks up your phone or you pass it to them.
Cyanogen OS also features a built-in Blacklist to permanently block numbers from ever calling or texting you again.
The Wileyfox Storm has a large 5.5 inch Full HD IPS LCD screen from LG that provides 400 pixels per inch.
The fully laminated display offers high-quality colour reproduction with excellent viewing angles.
Using a top of the range Sony EXMOR IMX220 sensor with 20 megapixels, the Wileyfox Storm can take incredible pictures, even in low light.
With Cyanogen's deep access to camera controls, you can control burst mode, exposure time and compensation, white balance and many other features usually only available on much more expensive smartphones or dedicated cameras.
Slow motion video recording is available, as well as the option to save your photos in uncompressed raw format (.DNG), perfect for those looking to complete highly detailed editing post-capture.
You'll also find a high resolution 8MP Selfie camera and flash on the front of the Storm.
