The Fairphone is great! It totally exceeded my expectations. Get a case and screen protector and you're gold! Hopefully this will be the phone that allows me to escape the world of planned obsolescence...
DHL delivered this phone from the UK to me in Cape Town, South Africa, within a few days of my ordering it. Check before you buy the phone how much the import duty/customs tax is and if you're prepare for the total cost - customs was an additional +- R1800 for me on top of the cost of the phone and delivery. The actual phone is very solid and works in South Africa and I am happy with it. It doesn't arrive with a charger or case, but that's explained in all the marketing. Have only had it a couple of weeks, so can't comment on battery life yet. Screen is a teensy bit unresponsive sometimes, but that might be because I applied the screen protector poorly. Overall, not the slickest phone on the market but that's not why I bought it and not why you should either :)
Currently using it on Public Mobile (Telus network) and it works perfectly.
Another happy Canadian customer. Phone arrived quickly. Put in the sim card and the phone works with the Fido network in western Canada.
I love the phone, it's sturdy, works well and feels well made.
There are really only three major things that prevent a phone from being used long term, and nowadays computing performance isn't one of them. One of them is the fact most phones only get one OS update in their life, which means after a while apps stop working as the Android version ages. The second is the OLED screen most phones have degrades over time. And lastly most phones now have a non-replaceable battery. Enter the Fairphone 3+. With the unlockable (and uniquely "re" lockable) boot loader, It is trivial to install de-googled versions of android like /e/ on it, which you can update forever. The high quality LCD screen never degrades. And even if any part of it does wear out, the phone is completely modular so you can repair or replace anything, including the removable battery. In short, this is simply the best phone I've ever owned. There isn't a better one on the market. It's a bit pricier than some, but it's not disposable. You can consider this phone a true investment.
