Function is key
Our QWERTY keyboard features five staggered rows in a full 64-key sliding landscape layout, under an angled screen. This provides an optimal typing and viewing experience while on the go. Our unique and innovative key design gives our keyboard a responsive, tactile feel for greater comfort and precision while typing.
The slider tilts the screen to a 155 degree angle for optimal viewing of documents and media on the go.

The hardness or sensitivity of each key was optimised to make it comfortable to press (adequate force, not too hard & not too soft). The surface of each key is slightly convex (shaped like a dome) so it feels better on the tips of your fingers.
We incorporated your feedback about supporting multiple languages and made all the keyboard related components one piece. As such, changing layouts will only involve changing one part, making it easier to switch to say QWERTZ or the Scandinavian layout.
We put a lot of thought into this keyboard and agonized over the smallest of details in order to make the best smartphone keyboard possible. We still have more to share, but we hope you like it so far!
January 2019 Update
Sliding back into place
If you’ve ever used a phone with a slider in the past, you probably miss that satisfying feeling and sound you get when opening and closing the mechanism. So why did we pick an angled slider and not just a regular slider? Honestly, we’re big fans of the angled mechanism that was used in some Nokia sliders.
The main benefits of this design are better viewing angles for the screen along with a more robust and solid mechanism. It also prevents the screen from wobbling when closed, a common problem with regular sliders. For our phone, we hired the same engineering team who designed the Nokia N97, E7, and N950. We tweaked this design for a larger form factor without compromising its strength.
Using state-of-the-art materials and engineering
We used a method called Powder Metallurgy (PM) to manufacture the slider’s metallic parts. This makes the slider mechanism stronger and more likely to survive a drop. These parts also have to be manufactured with very high accuracy (tolerances of < 0.25mm). Very few factories can meet these requirements, but we managed to find one. For reference, we require the same high standards used for some mechanical parts on high-end drones.
As with every other aspect of our handset, our goal with the slider mechanism is to make it the best keyboard phone on the market. We hope you’ll like it.
February 2019 Update
Supporting as many bands as possible
A lot of you have been asking us about which networks and bands our phone supports. We’ve managed to include support for most major global 2G/3G/LTE networks and bands, including legacy CDMA. This means our device will work with almost any carrier across Europe and North America. Here is a list of bands:
- GSM: 2, 3, 5, 8
- WCDMA: 1, 2, 4, 5, 8
- CDMA/EVDO: BC0, BC1
- TD-SCDMA: 34/39
- TDD-LTE: 38/39/40/41 (100mhz)
- FDD-LTE: 1, 2/25, 3, 4, 5/26, 7, 8, 12/17, 13, 20, 28
Including all these bands required complex engineering due to the number of metal parts in our handset (the slider) and the need to test radio performance with the slider both open and closed. We’ll consider releasing special regional versions in the future if your carrier isn’t supported with the global version.
A few other specs worth mentioning include dual nano SIM support (slot 2 is hybrid and accepts either a nano SIM or a microSD card for storage expansion). We managed to incorporate two speakers for stereo sound, which is great for watching your favourite YouTube videos! You also probably noticed that we kept the 3.5mm headphone jack despite most new phones leaving it out. We want our customers to have choices and not be forced into using wireless headphones.
We chose a USB Type-C port for power and data connectivity, along with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging. USB OTG is enabled and the Type-C port can also output HDMI video. There’s a fingerprint reader located on the right edge of the phone, and NFC support for Google Pay. Finally, we included a 2-stage camera shutter button on right edge, for those who prefer handling their phone like a proper camera.
