Is the Huawei P30 Lite Water Resistant?

Is the Huawei P30 Lite Water Resistant?

The Huawei P30 and Huawei P30 Pro have won many plaudits with their photography capabilities and now it’s the turn of the Huawei P30 Lite. Despite being a mid-range offering, the Huawei P30 Lite comes with a host of features that are usually reserved for much more expensive devices. But is the Huawei P30 Lite water resistant? The Huawei P30 Lite is not ‘officially’ water resistant and does not come with a certified IP rating. That said, it is coated in aluminium silicate; a toughened glass that provides an extra layer of protection. The Huawei P30 Lite is available from Clove Technology in Peacock Blue, Midnight Black and Pearl White for £329.99 inc-VAT Huawei P30 Lite | £329.99 inc-VAT    What is an IP rating and is it important? An IP rating is an international standard that is used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (such as dirt and dust) and moisture. An IP rating is presented in the form of ‘IP’ (Ingress Protection) followed by two numbers. The first of these numbers refers to the protection provided against solids. This number ranges from 1 to 6 and the higher the number, the better the protection. For example, 1 promises protection against solid objects over 50mm, whilst a 6 rating indicates that a device is dust tight. The second number then, refers to protection from liquids and ranges from 1 to 8. In this instance, a ‘1’ rating describes protection against vertically falling drops of water (such as rain), whilst a top-of-the-class ‘8’ rating promises protection against the effects of long periods of immersion in water, usually outlined by the manufacturer. As such, an IP68 rating is currently the best certification that can be ascribed to a smartphone device, however it’s important to remember that the relevant testing is only performed on fresh water. As such, you may experience an extremely different outcome in the face of salt water and other liquids such as spilt drinks.   What is Aluminium Silicate, and does it help with water resistance? Despite not having an official IP rating, we contacted Huawei and the Huawei P30 Lite does have an aluminium silicate covering. This is essentially a chemically strengthened glass that is designed to be thin and light so that it can be used on a range of electronic devices, and importantly damage-resistant. Indeed, aluminium silicate undergoes a special ionisation process, to gain its surface strength and crack resistance. Further, aluminium silicate contains a good percentage of alkali content, which strengthens the surface of the glass and gives it a high transformation temperature. This offers great protection against impacts and scratches. As such, whilst not being produced to be water resistant, this essentially provides your smartphone device with a thin extra layer which is durable and resilient. When you think about it as an extra layer of protection to your device, you get a rough idea of how this might work in the face of small drops of water such as light rain. We certainly wouldn’t advise taking the Huawei P30 Lite swimming with you, but it should be able to cope with light rain. It’s always best to avoid this where possible and act with due care and diligence. Why is the Huawei P30 Lite not IP certified? One of the key reasons why many devices do not come with a certified IP rating is due to the extra costs that this entails. In this case, the P30 Lite is the more ‘budget’ variant of the P30 family. The standard Huawei P30 model has an IP53 certification, whilst the top-of-the-range Huawei P30 Pro comes with an IP68 rating. As you can see, the further up the line you go and the more you pay, the greater water resistance that is offered. The Huawei P30 Lite is a mid-range affordable variant of the device and if waterproofing were brought into this, then costs would rise significantly.   Are there any other ways to protect the Huawei P30 Lite from water? Whilst the Huawei P30 Lite does not come with certified waterproofing, there are a number of ways in which you can protect your device from water. The best of these is by purchasing a waterproof case for your device. The DiCAPac Action Universal Case is perfect for wet scenarios and provides all of the protection that you need to be more adventurous with your smartphone device in tandem. As well as coming with the highest grade JIS IPX8 waterproof rating, the window on the front is crystal clear so that you can easily see the screen on your phone and still use all of the features that you need. Indeed, you are still able to make full use of the touchscreen whilst it’s in the case and also make calls. The case also protects against dust and other particles, as well as water. Is the Huawei P30 Lite worth it? For a so-called mid-range device, the Huawei P30 Lite offers a host of features usually reserved for flagship devices. A triple-lens setup adorns the rear of the P30 Lite and enables you to capture stunning images. Consisting of a 48MP main lens, an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor, you can capture sharp and detailed photos with brilliant colours. A powerful octa-core processor ensures that you have a smooth experience whether you are using the latest apps or playing graphically demanding games. Whilst the 6.15-inch Full HD Dewdrop notch display gives stunning results with impressive colour reproduction.   Huawei P30 Lite Key Features Android 9.0 (Pie) with EMUI 9.0 48MP AI Ultra-Wide Triple Camera with 2x optical zoom 24MP Selfie Camera with AI scene recognition 15-inch Full HD+ De Display (2312 x 1080) Huawei Kirin 710 octa-core processor 128GB storage / 4GB RAM Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac & Bluetooth 4.2 Huawei P30 Lite | £329.99 inc-VAT

Can the Samsung Galaxy S9 Go Underwater?

Can the Samsung Galaxy S9 Go Underwater?

One of the more common questions that people ask about the Samsung range of phones is whether or not they are waterproof, and if so, to what extent can they be exposed to water. To answer this question, we wanted to start off first with the Samsung Galaxy S9 as only last week we had a question come in from a customer as to whether or not it could go underwater. The Samsung Galaxy S9, like many from the Galaxy range, has an IP68 water resistant rating and this is something that is often highlighted in the reviews of the phone as being impressive when compared to rival handsets. So, it’s understandable that people looking to buy it will see this rating being highlighted and could think that means the phone will be ok to use underwater. But is it really the case? We don’t advise you do so, and here’s why. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is Water Resistant, but is it Water Proof? The IP ratings given to phones reflect how well a device will prevent water from getting into the handset and damaging the electronics. Handy Hint: You can read more about what IP ratings mean elsewhere on the Clove Technology blog.  A waterproof rating of IP68, as the Galaxy S9 has, is very high compared to other phones on the market, but… and here’s the thing; it means it is very water resistant. And water resistant is different to waterproof. Whilst we can be relatively confident that should you accidentally drop your Samsung Galaxy S9 into water, and quickly retrieve it, then it should (in theory) be absolutely fine. In fact, the IP68 rating means this handset has been tested to see how well it works when submerged in water at a depth of 1.5 metres for 30 minutes, with the 8 signifying very good results. The first digit recognises the mechanical protection: The second digit illustrates the level of water ingress protection: So, should you use your Samsung Galaxy S9 underwater? We don’t believe you should. Whilst the IP68 waterproof rating is very impressive, it’s only scored against water, and not any of the other elements you might find when swimming. For example, in swimming pools there are chemicals such as chlorine. Would your S9 be protected against those type of elements? We’re not so sure, which is why we would never advise that you use your Galaxy, or any other phone for that matter, underwater. But, you do have the peace of mind in knowing that should you drop your Samsung Galaxy S9 down the toilet or into a sink, then it’s very well protected and should not be damaged. Which is just one reason why it’s one of our best sellers, and you can see our latest deals on unlocked and SIM Free Galaxy S9s in our online store. Which Samsung Galaxy Phones are Waterproof? We hope that’s given you a little bit more insight into our views on using phones underwater.  Generally speaking, the most recent Samsung Galaxy ranges all come with impressive IP water-resistance ratings. We’ve listed these below for you: Samsung Galaxy A series A3: IP68 high water resistance rating A5: IP68 high water resistance rating A8: IP68 high water resistance rating Samsung Galaxy Note models Galaxy Note 8: IP68 high water resistance rating Samsung Galaxy S smartphones S6 Edge: No IP rating, so is not water resistant S7: IP68 high water resistance rating S7 edge: IP68 high water resistance rating S8: IP68 high water resistance rating S8 Plus: IP68 high water resistance rating S9: IP68 high water resistance rating S9 Plus: IP68 high water resistance rating Samsung Galaxy J devices Galaxy J5 (2017 Edition): No IP rating, so is not water resistant Galaxy J5 (2016 Edition): No IP rating, so is not water resistant Samsung Xcover smartphones Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 – IP68 high water resistance rating You can view all of our Samsung Galaxy phones in our store, some of which as you can see from the above list are water resistant, but as with before, we wouldn’t advise using them underwater.  Are Samsung Galaxy S6 Phones Waterproof?  And finally, the S6 which is another device we’ve asked about recently regarding underwater usage and how waterproof it is. The S6 models are lower priced devices which don’t come with as many features. The S6 Edge, in particular, has no official IP rating so cannot be considered water resistant. However, there are some videos on YouTube where bloggers have tested the water resistance of the S6. These have had positive results, despite the phone not having an official IP rating. SaveSave

Which MHL adapter does my Samsung Galaxy need?

Which MHL adapter does my Samsung Galaxy need?

We explain exactly which MHL adapter to use with any Samsung Galaxy device.  From 2011/2012, MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) became the de-facto method for outputting content from many mobile devices to a second screen. We have covered the topic in depth a few times in our What is MHL? and Which MHL cable should I buy? posts. As with all new technology, MHL quickly evolved since its conception; there’s even an upgraded version coming soon called SuperMHL. Whilst some manufacturers like Sony and HTC are currently still compatible with the earliest specification in 2014, Samsung have adapted and with each generation of devices the compatibility has changed. Many Samsung Galaxy phones can use MHL adapters, the post below will explain which can and which adapters to use. Finally, throughout 2015, Samsung stopped support for MHL, so the Galaxy S6 range and Note 5 do not have the feature. To understand how to use wireless screen sharing options with these phones, you can read our guide on Miracast and Google Chromecast. In this post I will work through the different generations of Samsung devices launched since MHL was first included in the Samsung Galaxy S2. The supported MHL version will be stated, along with which Samsung adapter to use. I will also finally call out devices which do not include MHL, that are widely believed to due to Samsung’s often confusing naming conventions. Is the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Water Resistant?

Is the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro Water Resistant?

Xiaomi have finally launched in the UK and have kicked things off in style with their latest flagship devices; the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro. Now, if you haven’t already seen, the Mi 8 Pro comes with a really unique translucent finish that allows you to see the inner workings of the device. But is the Xiaomi Mi 8and Mi 8 Pro water resistant?  The Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro are not officially water resistant and do not have an IP rating. That said, both devices are draped in Corning Gorilla Glass 5; a toughened glass that provides an extra layer of safety, offering very mild resistance from water.  The Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro are now available from Clove with prices beginning at £400 including VAT! What is Corning Gorilla Glass 5? Corning Gorilla Glass is a chemically strengthened glass that is crafted to provide strong levels of damage resistance to a host of mobiles, laptops and wearable devices. The glass has been designed to be thin and light and comes with optical clarity and touch sensitivity, so much so that using your device shouldn’t feel any different than if Corning Gorilla Glass hadn’t been included at all. Indeed, many of the devices that you have used in the past have probably come fit with this protection. Samsung, Motorola, LG, Huawei and Sony are some of the many manufacturers to adopt Corning’s Gorilla Glass, and the durable glass can be found on laptops and smartwatches as well as mobile devices. Most importantly, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 provides fantastic protection; allowing devices to survive 1.6-meter, shoulder-height drops onto hard, rough surfaces up to 80% of the time. The glass provides very high levels of resistance to scratch and sharp contact damage and claims to be 5x tougher than its rivals. So in essence, think of Corning Gorilla Glass as a strong extra layer draped around mobile devices, providing extra resistance in the face of bumps and scratches.   Can the Xiaomi Mi 8 survive any water damage? Now, as stated, the Xiaomi Mi and Mi 8 Pro have been officially announced as not being waterproof and thereby do not come with that trusty IP rating that many other devices are equipped with. That said, the devices have been draped with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and so you might therefore expect the Mi 8 to survive small amounts of water. This extra layer is durable and resilient as outlined above and so, when you think about it as an extra layer of protection to your device, you get a rough idea of how this might work. We certainly wouldn’t advise taking the Xiaomi Mi 8 or Mi 8 Pro swimming with you, but it should be able to cope with light rain and vertical splashes. It’s always best to avoid this where possible and act with due care and diligence.   Why do Xiaomi not make their devices water resistant? It’s not just the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro; Xiaomi have not crafted any of their flagship devices with water resistance or an IP rating. Indeed, it was only a couple of years ago that Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, addressed the issue and outlined a number of reasons why Xiaomi continue down this road. Firstly, Lei Jun claimed that adding waterproofing to devices makes them far costlier. Central to Xiaomi’s philosophy is the ethos of providing high specifications at a much more affordable price and adding water resistance to devices would mean that customers would have to pay 20-30% more than they currently do. Similarly, Lei Jun believes that even minor damage to a phone, even if only a small crack, can cause the device to deteriorate and make waterproofing procedures wholly ineffective. Even the smallest of cracks allows water to into a phone, damaging it from the inside – even if it is waterproof and crafted with a high IP rating.   What is an IP rating and is it important? IP ratings are used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (e.g. dirt and dust) and moisture. A rating is presented in the form of ‘IP’ (Ingress Protection) followed by two numbers, for example ‘IP68’. The first number refers to protection against solids and ranges from 1 to 6, with a higher number providing far better levels of protection. For example, if something is rated 1 you can expect protection against solid objects over 50mm, whereas if it is rated 6 it is rated as dust tight. Similarly, the second number refers to liquids and ranges from 1 to 8, with a ‘1’ rating protecting against vertically falling drops of water and an 8 protecting against the effects of long periods of immersion in water under pressure.   The Xiaomi Mi 8 is available from Clove as a UK or an EU Model, with either 64GB or 128GB of internal memory and 6GB RAM. Colour options include White, Black and Blue and prices begin at £400 including VAT. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is available as a UK model in that really unique transparent finish with 128GB internal storage and 8GB RAM for £499 including VAT.

Dash camera memory card recording times

Dash camera memory card recording times

If you have or are looking for a dash camera, it is possible you are wondering how much video or footage from the dash camera you can save to the memory card in the camera. The simple answer is that the amount of minutes of storage capacity on each camera will vary. The recording times are based on several variables: The quality at which the video is recorded, this includes the resolution and frame rate. Whether it is just one camera in the front or another in the rear too. The memory card or storage capacity available in the camera. Other camera features such as the software to run the camera being on the memory card and secure recordings being saved. However, despite these variables, the following table should give you a ‘guide’ as to how many minutes of recording is available based on the recording resolution and frame rate and the memory in the dash cam. If you require more accurate data then you will need to consult with the manufacturer of the dash camera you have or wish to own as they will be better placed to give this precise information. Do be aware that most cameras will employ a loop recording facility whereby when the memory runs out, it overwrites the oldest recordings, thus able to record continuously.  However if you wish to keep footage for longer you will need to opt for the larger memory options.  Just be sure to check your camera supports the larger card sizes, moist will support up to 64GB. If you are in the market for a dash cam, why not check out one of our other useful guides: Car Camera FAQ’s Car camera features explained Should I buy a car camera When you have learnt all you desire about them, you can take a look at our range of in car cameras.

Why do some contacts not show up in WhatsApp?

Why do some contacts not show up in WhatsApp?

If you’re a WhatsApp user, you may find that when you switch phones or change number, some of your contacts that were previously available do not show up. This is usually because the country code is missing. If you’re based in the same country as the person that you are trying to message, this may not be a problem. Otherwise, if the contact isn’t showing, go into your address book and make sure that the country code is correctly inserted at the beginning of their number. It should be +44787… as opposed to 0787…, for example. If some of your contacts still aren’t showing, you may need to alter an option in settings. To do this, go to the homepage of your WhatsApp (that’s the screen that shows the entire list of your active conversations) and click the settings option in the top right. From there go to settings > contacts and there is then an option to ‘Show all contacts’. Make sure this is ticked and you should then find that, provided the contact numbers are inserted correctly, all of your contacts (that use WhatsApp) show up in WhatsApp.   We hope this article has been helpful to you.  If you are thinking about purchasing a new phone or recycling one, we will be happy to help.  You can find details about new phones at www.clove.co.uk  Alternatively, if you wish to recycle one, please go to www.clove-recycling.co.uk

Xiaomi Mi 9 | From £444 inc-VAT   What is Gorilla Glass, and will this help with waterproofing the Xiaomi Mi 9? Despite not having an official IP rating, the Xiaomi Mi 9 does have a 2.5D sheet of Gorilla Glass 6 across the back of the device and Gorilla Glass 5 draped over the front. Gorilla Glass is a well-known brand, producing chemically strengthened glass that is designed to be thin and light so that it can be used on a range of handheld electronic devices, and importantly damage-resistant. Indeed, in production, the glass is immersed in a proprietary, hot, potassium-salt, ion-exchange bath to gain its surface strength and crack-resistance. Gorilla Glass undergoes rigorous testing for flexibility, scratch resistance and impact protection before mass production. From this, it’s claimed that Gorilla Glass 5 is able to survive drops of up to 1.6 meters (or selfie height!) onto hard surfaces 80% of the time, whilst on average, Gorilla Glass 6 survived 15 consecutive drops from 1 meter onto rough surfaces. As such, whilst not being produced for water resistance, this essentially provides your smartphone device with a thin extra layer which is durable and resilient. When you think about it as an extra layer of protection to your device, you get a rough idea of how this might work in the face of small drops of water such as light rain. We certainly wouldn’t advise taking the Xiaomi Mi 9 swimming with you, but it should be able to cope with light rain. It’s always best to avoid this where possible and act with due care and diligence.   Why don’t Xiaomi make their phones water resistant? It’s not just the Xiaomi Mi 9 that comes without certified water resistance; Xiaomi has not crafted any of their flagship devices with an IP rating. Indeed, it was only a couple of years ago that the company’s founder Lei Jun, addressed this issue after many users had questioned this, giving a number of reasons why Xiaomi hasn’t entered down this route. The first reason he gave, was that when smartphone handsets are damaged even slightly, the water protection is immediately weakened, rendering an IP rating useless. Jun believes that even the most minor of damage to a phone – such as a small crack – can cause the device to deteriorate, damaging it from the inside. Even the smallest crack allows water into a phone, making waterproofing procedures wholly ineffective, even if they are certified with a high IP rating. Many other manufacturers that are producing IP68-rated handsets are protecting the internals (such as the connectivity ports) with a rubber seal to stop water from seeping inside. If any of these seals are accidentally torn during day-to-day activities with a phone, then even minimal contact with water could render the device useless. The second reason that Lei Jun gave, was that waterproofing procedures add greatly to the device’s overall costs. Xiaomi devices promise high quality and flagship specifications at extremely affordable prices, and if waterproofing were brought into this, then costs would rise significantly. Indeed, Jun added that Xiaomi may add the functionality if users were willing to pay 20-30% more for devices. As such, it seems pretty certain that Xiaomi don’t have any immediate plans to add waterproofing to their devices. Xiaomi Mi 9 | From £444 inc-VAT What is an IP rating and is it important? In short, an IP rating is an international standard that is used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (such as dirt and dust) and moisture. As such, an IP68 rating is the currently the best certification that can be given to a device, however it’s important to remember that the relevant testing is only performed against fresh water. As such, you may experience an extremely difference outcome in the face of salt water and other liquids such as spilt drinks. Are there any other ways to protect the Xiaomi Mi 9 from water? Whilst the Xiaomi Mi 9 does not come with certified waterproofing, there are a number of ways in which you can protect your device from water. The best of these is by buying a waterproof case for your device. The DiCAPac Action Universal Case is perfect for wet scenarios and provides all of the protection that you need to be more adventurous with your smartphone device in tandem. As well as coming with the highest grade JIS IPX8 waterproof rating, the window on the front is crystal clear so that you can easily see the screen on your phone and still use all of the features you need. Indeed, you are still able to make full use of the touchscreen whilst it’s in the case and also make calls. The case also protects against dust and other particles, as well as water.   Is the Xiaomi Mi 9 worth it? Despite not coming with an IP rating, the Xiaomi Mi 9 is a very impressive flagship device and has a plethora of other features that make it one of the best devices of the year. Xiaomi has a deserved reputation of providing high quality handsets at affordable prices and the Mi 9 is certainly no different. If smartphone photography is important to you, then the Mi 9 comes with a triple lens rear setup. An incredible 48MP main camera sensor from Sony provides the highest available resolution in a mobile camera today, allowing you to zoom in on photos up to 4x and still have an incredibly detailed image. The all-new Snapdragon 855 processor is the current top-level mobile chip, with improved performance in all areas including graphics and AI / machine-learning. A 3,300mAh battery should get you through a day without any issues, however when it is time to rejuice, the device supports 20W fast wireless charging. To round things off, the Mi 9 sports a 6.39-inch HDR10 certified Super AMOLED display which allows for fully immersive media playback.   Xiaomi Mi 9 Key Features Android 9.0 (Pie) with Xiaomi MUI 10 Snapdragon 855 flagship processor with Adreno 640 GPU 39-inch HDR10 certified Super AMOLED display Aluminium frame & Gorilla Glass Triple main camera: 48 + 16 + 12MP 20MP front-facing camera In-screen fingerprint sensor and IR face unlock 3,300mAh battery 20W fast wireless charging Xiaomi Mi 9 | From £444 inc-VAT

Is the Samsung Galaxy A80 Water Resistant?

Is the Samsung Galaxy A80 Water Resistant?

With its unique, rotating triple-lens camera, the Samsung Galaxy A80 is the perfect smartphone for capturing a range of dramatic photos. Whether you’re looking for a stunning landscape or the ultimate selfie, the A80 utilises a rotating camera mechanism to make the most of it’s triple-lens setup. But is the Samsung Galaxy A80 water resistant? The Samsung Galaxy A80 is not ‘officially’ water resistant and does not come with an IP rating due to the camera mechanisms. It is draped in Corning Gorilla Glass which provides an extra layer of safety, offering very mild resistance from water. The Samsung Galaxy A80 can be purchased from Clove Technology, for £616 including VAT. Samsung Galaxy A80 | £616 inc-VAT What is Gorilla Glass, and will this help with water resistance? Gorilla Glass is a well-known brand, producing chemically strengthened glass that is designed to be thin and light so that it can be used on a range of handheld, electronic devices – and importantly, damage resistant! Indeed, in production glass is immersed in a proprietary, hot, potassium-salt, ion-exchange bath to gain its surface strength and crack resistance. The glass then undergoes vigorous testing for flexibility, scratch resistance and impact protection before mass production. The rear of the Samsung Galaxy A80 is coated in the newest Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which, on average, survived 15 consecutive drops from 1m onto rough surfaces. The front of the device is also coated in the scratch and damage resistant Gorilla Glass 3.   Whilst Gorilla Glass is produced for damage resistance rather than water resistance, it does provide devices with a thin extra layer which is durable and resilient. As such, if you think of it as an extra layer of protection to your device, then you might get a rough idea of how this might work in the face of small drops of water such as light rain. Why doesn’t the Samsung Galaxy A80 come with an IP rating? We’re big fans of that sliding camera mechanism here at Clove Technology, however these moving parts – coupled with the mid-range standing – mean that the Galaxy A80 completely forfeits any sort of IP rating for water and/or dust resistance. When you want to make use of that front camera, then not only does the A80 slide up, but the camera also utilises a complex rotating system. In this way, a rotation mechanism simply flips the cameras from facing the rear to the front of the phone and back again. Now when the device pops up, a gap is created on the side and top of the phone. Water, dust, lint and other particles are therefore more able to work their way into the slider module and into the innards of the phone where they do most damage. Compare this to other devices in which the only gaps available are small headphone jacks or speaker grilles and you can see why it would be nigh-on impossible for the Galaxy A80 to be IP-certified. Despite this, the phone is said to come with a clear, plastic case in the box. This will cover three sides of the phone, with the top left open so that camera is able to slide up with ease. We would always exercise caution whilst using your smartphone around water anyway, so this shouldn’t be a deal breaker for most. What is an IP rating and is it important? An IP rating is an international standard which is used to define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against intrusion from foreign bodies (such as dirt and dust) and moisture. These ratings are presented in the form of ‘IP’ (Ingress Protection) followed by two numbers; for example, IP65. The first of these numbers refers to protection against solids and ranges from 1 to 6, with the higher the number, the better the protection. For example, ‘1’ indicates protection against solid objects over 50mm, whilst a ‘6’ rating indicates that a device is dust tight. The second number refers to protection from liquids and ranges from 1 to 8. Again, the higher the number, the better the protection that the device is offered. ‘1’ generally indicates protection against vertically falling drops of water (like rain), whilst an ‘8’ rating protects against the effects of long periods of immersion in water, usually outlined by the manufacturer. As such, an IP68 rating is the best that be awarded, however it’s important to note that relevant testing is only performed against fresh water. You may experience a vastly different outcome in the face of salt water or other liquids such as spilt drinks. Whether your device comes with an IP rating or not, we would always exercise caution whilst using your smartphone device or tablet around water.   Are there any other ways to protect the Samsung Galaxy A80 from water? Despite not coming with a certified IP rating against water and dust, there are a number of ways in which you can help to protect your Samsung Galaxy A80 from water. The best of these is by purchasing a waterproof case for your device. The DiCAPac Action Universal case is the perfect example of this and is perfect for wet scenarios; providing all of the protection that you need to be more adventurous with your device in tandem. Indeed, you are still able to make full use of the touchscreen whilst it’s in the case and also make calls. The case also protects again dust and other particles, as well as water. Is the Samsung Galaxy A80 worth it? Despite not having a certified IP-rating against dust or water, the Samsung Galaxy A80 comes crafted with one of the most innovative designs of 2019 and provides exceptional value-for-money. The main 48MP camera (f/2.0) captures images with incredible detail, which are bright and clear no matter the time of day in which they are taken. A TOF 3D depth camera lets you adjust the depth of field in images, whilst an 8MP ultra-wide lens completes the setup; with a  full 123-degree wide angle for epic panorama shots. The new 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity display maximises screen space, incorporating thin bezels without notches or cut-outs. It even has an under-screen fingerprint sensor so that there aren’t any distractions to the look and feel of the design. For all of that image snapping, you’re going to need a big battery, and a 3700mAh will get you through with ease. When it is time to rejuice, then the Samsung Galaxy A80 supports 25W Super Fast Charging.   Samsung Galaxy A80 Key Features Android 9 (Pie) with One UI 7-inch 1080 x 2400 FHD+ Super AMOLED Infinity Display Qualcomm SDM730 Snapdragon 730 processor 128GB internal storage / 8GB RAM TRIPLE 48MP + 8MP + TOF cameras 3,700mAh battery with fast charging Bluetooth 5 / GPS / Dual-Band Wi-Fi / NFC 2 x 76.5 x 9.3mm Samsung Galaxy A80 | £616 inc-VAT

Can the Sony PlayStation Classic Play Discs?

Can the Sony PlayStation Classic Play Discs?

It all began in Japan in 1994. The first PlayStation changed everything and paved the way for two decades of gaming hysteria since. Now finally, you can revel in nostalgia and relive the era that changed gaming forever with Sony’s new, reignited PlayStation Classic. The console comes pre-loaded with some classic games. But can the Sony PlayStation Classic play discs? The Sony PlayStation Classic cannot play discs or any of your own games as the disc drive of the console is too small to work with CDs. Instead, the console comes pre-installed with 20 classic PlayStation One games. The Sony PlayStation Classic is now available from Clove with same day worldwide shipping for £89.99 including VAT! What Games Are Pre-Loaded on the Sony PlayStation Classic? A classic console would not be the same without some classic games, many of which we spent hours on in our youth. So which games have Sony pre-loaded onto the console? Here is the full list: Battle Arena Toshinden Cool Boarders 2 Destruction Derby Final Fantasy VII Grand Theft Auto Intelligent Qube Jumping Flash Metal Gear Solid Mr Driller Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee Revelations: Persona Rayman Resident Evil Director’s Cut R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo Syphon Filter Tekken 3 Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Twisted Metal Wild Arms Can You Play A Game That Isn’t Preloaded? The Sony PlayStation Classic does not function as a full-blown console in the same way that the original PlayStation did or indeed in the same way that other consoles on the market do. The PlayStation Classic is 45% smaller than the PlayStation One and as such, the disc drive is not a functioning drive and is too small to hold CDs and discs. This means that any original PlayStation games that you might still have stored in the attic will not be compatible with the PlayStation Classic. Similarly, the console does not come with any online connectivity features whatsoever, meaning that there is simply no way to download games or add games from the PlayStation store to your console.  Instead, simply plug the Classic into your TV and a USB power supply and enjoy access to the 20 games that have been pre-installed. Are The Games The Same As They Were With The Original PlayStation? When booting the PlayStation Classic you will be greeted with a host of games that feel brilliantly familiar. None of the games that have been pre-loaded have undergone an HD update, meaning they’re exactly the way you remember and we actually quite like it! Every game is locked at 720p and the same classic 90s graphics mean highly pixelated characters and settings. You may experience slight frame-rate loss and slightly blurred images but wasn’t that the way it was?! They’re gritty and grainy and fill us with nostalgia! Graphics aside, the games are all exactly as they were in 1994, following the same storylines and with the same backdrops and characters. Is the PlayStation Classic the Same as the Original PlayStation? Visually, the PlayStation Classic is simply a miniaturised version of the original and is 45% smaller, but that aside, the two are almost identical. The console comes packaged with two wired controllers much like the original, as well as the classic three buttons on top; Power, Open and Reset. The Power button allows you turn the console on and off, whilst the Open button allows you to switch virtual discs in multi-disc games. Similarly, Reset takes you back to the original game selection menu and creates a resume marker for the next time that you want to go back to a particular game. The classic start up screen that I’m sure you all remember is the same, whilst you’ll also be greeted with the familiar PlayStation bootup sound. Where Can I Buy the PlayStation Classic? The PlayStation Classic is now available from Clove for only £89.99 including VAT. With same day worldwide shipping, you can be assured that the classic console will be shipped quickly and efficiently.
